JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind transports viewers back to the days of the early 2000s via the ruling mafia of Naples: Passione. Giorno Giovanna takes the lead as Part 5’s JoJo and despite being the youngest JoJo to date, his adventure is filled with excitement and grief.
Confirmed by Kensho Ono (Giorno Giovanna’s Japanese voice actor) during the Joestar Radio event, the production team of Part 5 kept to the one-week timeline set by the manga. They made the entire Passione journey around Italy in about 7-8 days for accuracy and authenticity in the finished product. Though never explicitly indicated in the anime, every main character does indeed have a canon age and many of them do have canon birthdays as well.
10 Koichi Hirose – 17 To 18
Koichi Hirose has a canon birthday on March 28, 1984. Unfortunately, his age falls into the category of “Araki Forgot.” Though instead of plot points, this time it refers to simple math. Part 5 definitely takes place in 2001 and Koichi was definitely born in 1984.
Since Golden Wind takes place sometime in late March of 2001, it’s safe to assume that Koichi’s birthday passed and he’s 17 when he arrives in Italy. This still makes sense within the context of Diamond is Unbreakable as well, since the Japanese school year starts in April. Koichi was most likely the youngest in his class but would have made the birthday cutoff in order to be in the same graduating year as Josuke.
9 Jean Pierre Polnareff – 36
Jean Pierre Polnareff is another of the Stardust Crusaders to go without a birthday. Fortunately, Polnareff doesn’t have the same issue as Koichi and his age is consistent with the dates given in Parts 3 and 5.
Stardust Crusaders begins sometime in November of 1988, with the group meeting Polnareff not long after Joseph and Avdol get Jotaro out of prison. So if Polnareff’s birthday was sometime in December, he would still be 22 when he met Jotaro, but 23 before the end of the story and the year. So doing the math out, it’s entirely plausible that Polnareff is 36 when he meets Giorno in 2001.
8 Trish Una – 15 To 16
Trish Una’s age is a true “Araki Forgot” moment since Hirohiko Araki changed it in the manga from April 14, 1986, to June 8, 1985. But at least she has a canon birthday, right down to the day!
However, the June birthday would be more accurate since Golden Wind takes place before mid-April. Going off of Giorno’s birthday and age, Trish would be in a similar situation. Hirohiko Araki most likely changed Trish’s birthday because the April birthday would actually make her 14 during the Golden Wind adventure. So depending on when Giorno fully ceases Passione as his own, Trish could either be 15 or 16 by the end of Part 5.
7 Diavolo/Doppio – 33
Everything about Diavolo is shrouded in mystery, from his puzzling birth to how he even met Trish’s mother, to begin with. But at the end of the day, no matter how much he tries to hide it, Diavolo is human.
Though Diavolo’s personal details are muddled, his backstory provides the summer of 1967 as the time of his birth. While it’s doubtful his mother suffered through pregnancy for two years, the 1967 date makes sense. In the mid-1980s, he would have been old enough to impregnate Trish’s mother. So placing Diavolo at 33 — since Golden Wind takes place before the summer — is surprisingly accurate.
6 Pannacotta Fugo – 16 To 17
Infamous for leaving the gang, Pannacotta Fugo was the first of Bucciarati’s team to be recruited. Fugo’s birth year is 1985, much like the other younger members of Bucciarati’s team. Since his age is confirmed as 16 during Golden Wind, his birthday must be before late March.
Fugo returns in the light novel Purple Haze Feedback, in which Giorno is already the new boss of Passione. So depending on the timeline for the novel and how it lines up with Part 5, Fugo could be 17 by the time all is said and done.
5 Narancia Ghirga – 17
Brought into the gang by Fugo, Narancia took the lighter test sometime in 1999 against Buccairati’s wishes. He has both a confirmed age — 17 years old at the time of Part 5 — and a birthday of May 20, 1983.
Narancia had the most shocking, painful death of Part 5, occurring right after stealing his resolve to truly live his life to the fullest. Since his death took place in April, he never lived to see his 18th birthday in May of 2001.
4 Guido Mista – 18 To 19
Imprisoned for a triple homicide in an attempt to save someone, Guido Mista was the second to last team member Bucciarati recruited. Mista joins the group of characters with definitive birthdays, his being December 3, 1982.
Since Golden Wind takes place before December of 2001, Mista is still 18 by the time Diavolo gets sentenced to the death loop. However, depending on when Purple Haze Feedback occurs, it’s possible that he could’ve ended the full Golden Wind story by age 19.
3 Leone Abbacchio – 21
Grumpy, fashionable, and Bucciarati’s second recruit, Leone Abbacchio’s story centers around guilt and redemption. His death in Golden Wind, while tragic, feels bittersweet. Though he dies incredibly young, he comes to a point of forgiveness with himself and spends the remainder of his life searching for the truth.
Abbacchio’s birthday is March 25, 1980. The exact date of Koichi’s flight to Naples was March 29, 2001. During Golden Wind, Abbacchio had just turned 21. Some fans speculate that when Bucciarati brought Giorno to Libeccio’s, that the gang was celebrating Abbacchio’s birthday.
2 Bruno Bucciarati – 20
Joining Passione at 12, Bruno Bucciarati takes the leadership role of Part 5. Serving as something of a mentor to Giorno and the other members, Bucciarati consistently shows the audience why his team continually puts their faith in him.
Bucciarati’s birthday is given as September 27, 1980. Tragically, he never lives to 21, managing to “die” twice in less than a week. However, most fans count his true death as occurring during the final battle, just before Gold Experience achieves Requiem.
1 Giorno Giovanna – 16
Arguably the most calculating and reserved of the JoJos, Giorno Giovanna is the main JoJo of Golden Wind. As a direct descendant of Jonathan Joestar and DIO, he inherited the qualities of both. For as much kindness and righteousness Giorno holds, he has just as much charisma and brutality.
Giorno’s birthday is April 16, 1985. Going along with the March 29 date, Golden Wind does take place before Giorno turns 16. Multiple jokes are made about Giorno being 15, including his illegal driving record. Assuming he becomes the boss of Passione at least another week after he lands Diavolo in the death loop, Giorno is most likely 16 at the end of his story.
