The characters of the Naruto universe have left a lasting impression on audiences across the world for their gallantry, generosity, and willingness to sacrifice when necessary. 36 Darui (January 6)
Darui was one of the Cloud Village’s most skilled shinobi and the man who would become the next Raikage. He shares a birthday with the villainous Danzo Shimura.
35 Gaara (January 19)
Gaara was a former adversary of Naruto Uzumaki and the current Kazekage of the Sand Village. Additionally, he was once the Jinchuriki to Shukaku.
34 Shino (January 23)
Shino was a member of the Aburame clan and among the strongest of the Konoha 11. Unfortunately, he was overlooked during Shikamaru’s mission to retrieve Sasuke.
33 Minato (January 25)
Minato was the Fourth Hokage and the technical Jinchuriki of Kurama (wielding half of his chakra). Though he had little presence in the original series, he was resurrected and became an asset of the Allied Shinobi Forces in the Fourth Ninja War.
32 Hiruzen Sarutobi (February 8)
Hiruzen Sarutobi was the Third Hokage of the Leaf and its most stalwart defender. He gave his life to protect the village from Orochimaru during the betrayal at the Chunin Exams.
31 Tobirama (February 19)
Tobirama was the Second Hokage of the Leaf and the brother of Hashirama Senju. He was best known for his realism and rigid distrust of the Uchiha clan.
30 Tenten (March 9)
Tenten was among Konoha’s most expert weapon masters and a member of the Konoha 11. In spite of this, she is frequently regarded as one of the series’ least talented kunoichi.
29 Sakura (March 28)
Sakura was a member of Team Seven and Konoha’s best medical shinobi (with the possible exception of Tsunade). Her ability to concentrate chakra into physical strength makes her formidable.
28 Mifune (April 1)
Mifune is a unique hero since he isn’t technically a shinobi. The man’s status as a samurai allows him to be an impartial mediator in the affairs of the Five Nations.
27 Choji (May 1)

26 Kankuro (May 15)
Kankuro was the older brother of Gaara and a shinobi from the Sand Village. The puppets he commands engineer horrifying deaths for his adversaries, making him a feared addition to the heroes’ ranks.
25 Killer Bee (May 15)
Killer Bee was the Eight-Tails Jinchuriki and a friend to Naruto. Intriguingly, he shares a birthday with Kankuro despite their few similarities to one another.
24 Iruka (May 26)
Iruka was Naruto’s oldest teacher and a man who provided friendship when the Jinchuriki desperately needed it. Without his guidance, the young hero may have gone the path of Gaara’s earlier years.
23 Ay (June 1)
Ay was the Fourth Raikage and wielded unparalleled physical strength. He harbored a vendetta toward Sasuke for his actions against Killer Bee and would not easily be persuaded through Naruto’s pleas.
22 Itachi (June 9)
Initially, Itachi was introduced as a villain for the genocide he enacted on the Uchiha clan. However, as the story continued to unfold, it was discovered that his actions were a necessity in preserving the shinobi world.
21 Kurenai (June 11)
Kurenai was the foremost expert on genjutsu after Itachi left the village. However, pregnancy inclined her to forfeit her career as a kunoichi, favoring her responsibilities as a mother instead.
20 Neji (July 3)
Initially, Neji was introduced as an abrasive and imperious young man who viewed himself better than others. However, his humbling at the hand of Naruto Uzumaki would change him for the better.
19 Kiba (July 7)
Kiba was a member of the Konoha 11 and the only character to actively employ a hound in battle. He and Akamaru made a formidable force, especially when using his Fang Over Fang technique.
18 Sasuke (July 23)
Though one may contend whether or not Sasuke is a hero, he began and continues his career in the service of Konoha. Nonetheless, he has much to repent for.
17 Tsunade (August 2)
Tsunade was a member of the Legendary Sannin and the Leaf’s best medical ninja. Additionally, her service as the Fifth Hokage provided stability in a time Konoha desperately needed it.
16 Yamato (August 10)
Yamato was a rare master of Wood style. This was because Orochimaru performed illicit experiments on him, infusing the shinobi with Hashirama cells and bolstering his strength considerably.
15 Temari (August 24)
Temari was Gaara’s older sister and Shikamaru’s wife. Capable of producing devastating gusts of wind from her fan, she is a deadly kunoichi and formidable warrior of the Sand Village.
14 Kakashi (September 15)
Kakashi was the jovial leader of Team Seven and a former member of the Anbu. Cunning and observant, his tutelage would shape the futures of Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha.
13 Shikamaru (September 22)
Shikamaru was the Leaf’s most naturally gifted tactician. In spite of his torpid mannerisms, he has demonstrated tremendous feats when applying himself (such as avenging Asuma through Hidan’s death).
12 Ino (September 23)
Ino was the wielder of the mind transfer jutsu and a member of Shikamaru’s team. Poetically, her birthday is immediately after Nara’s own, subliminally illustrating how the two were destined to collaborate.
11 Onoki (October 8)
Onoki was the Tsuchikage of the Stone Village a master of the particle style jutsu. Through strength and guile, he thwarted Madara’s attempt to crush the Allied Shinobi Forces in one blow with a massive meteor.
10 Naruto (October 10)
Naruto was the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki and the savior of Konoha on numerous occasions. With every victory, he gradually ascended from being the village’s outcast to its greatest messiah.
9 Chiyo (October 15)
Chiyo was the grandmother of Sasori and a talented medical shinobi from the Sand Village. She gave her life to restore Gaara and guarantee the future of her people.
8 Asuma (October 18)
Asuma was Shikamaru’s mentor and the son of Hiruzen Sarutobi. He gave his life in the line of duty against the Akatsuki, but his invaluable lessons would live in the hearts of his students.
7 Hashirama (October 23)
Hashirama was the First Hokage of the Leaf and often regarded as its strongest. Additionally, he was the architect of peace between the Senju and Uchiha clans.
6 Jiraiya (November 11)
Jiraiya was a member of the Legendary Sannin and the tutor of both Naruto and Nagato. The latter would claim his life before attacking the Leaf Village.
5 Shizune (November 18)
Shizune was the assistant and caretaker of Lady Tsunade. While generally serving a passive role, she demonstrated proficiency at using syringes in combat.
4 Rock Lee (November 27)
Rock Lee was a taijutsu genius and one of the strongest heroes in the original series. However, his ineptitude with ninjutsu or genjutsu would make him fall behind by the end of Shippuden.
3 Sai (November 28)
Sai was Sasuke’s ersatz replacement on Team Seven and a former member of the Foundation. He would later be married to Ino, as depicted in Boruto.
2 Hinata (December 27)
Hinata was the soft-spoken heir of the Hyuga clan. Inspired by Naruto’s courage, she saved his life from Pain and would later marry him at the series’ conclusion.
1 Konohamaru (December 31)
Konohamaru was the grandson of Hiruzen Sarutobi and a student of Naruto Uzumaki. He would take responsibility for training Boruto after his sensei became Hokage.
