Darling In The Franxx: Every Main Character, Ranked By Likability

Despite having released only in 2018, Darling In The Franxx rose quickly in popularity and became one of the most popular mecha anime out there, right next to Code Geass and Neon Genesis Evangelion. Perhaps one of the biggest reasons behind its success was the character Zero Two, who instantly became the show’s breakout character

Part of the show’s popularity was also due to the infamous 2018 waifu war that this anime triggered between Ichigo and the anime’s show-stopper, Zero Two. Despite the other characters being overshadowed by these two girls (including Hiro), even the show’s biggest critics cannot deny how excessively likable many of these characters were.

10 Zorome: The Most Immature Member Of The Squad Also Happened To Be A Creep

Zorome was prideful, sarcastic, rude, argumentative and did not lose a single chance to prove his superiority over his squad members. He would often mock, humiliate or goad them for any mistakes they made, and he hated Hiro the most, so much so that he even got into a physical altercation with him.

Zorome also showed a startling lack of respect for his female squad members’ privacy, as well as their rejection of his unwanted advances.

9 Miku: This Unapologetic Tsundere Was The Least Liked Female Character From The Show

9 darling in the franxx Miku

Female tsundere are a dime-a-dozen in anime, especially in harem or in ensemble shows. She acts aloof, is often blunt and rude to her friends, reacts aggressively whenever provoked, but also hides a kind side to her that she shows only to her friends.

While there weren’t anything fans particularly disliked about her, the truth was that her character was a very basic tsundere, the type that fans had already seen several times in other (and much better) shows.

8 Ikuno: This Calm & Rational Girl Has A Surprising Soft Spot For Her Squad Members

8 darling in the franxx Ikuno

Ikuno preferred not socializing much with her crewmates, but despite that, there were many instances where she showed concern for their well-being, including concern for the one person she hated the most – her partner Mitsuru.

She also struggled with her sexuality and the concept of gender, due to her strong feelings towards Ichigo, thanks to whom she finally learns to become friendlier towards her squad members.

7 Mitsuru: This Arrogant Boy Eventually Learns What It Is To Truly Love Someone

7 darling in the franxx Mitsuru

Cocky, prideful, and cynical – these three words described Mitsuru the best. Due to his aloof personality, he hated asking others for help and often stayed away from his crewmates, instead, choosing to bask in his superiority complex.

However, after he fell in love with Kokoro, his personality and attitude towards his life gradually changed, so much so that he agreed to marry and have children with Kokoro because that was what she desired.

6 Hiro: A Boy With Low Self-Esteem Ends Up Sacrificing His Life For Humanity’s Sake

5 darling in the franxx Hiro

Since he could not pilot a FranXX, Hiro suffered from very low self-esteem, something that changed the moment he met Zero Two. Her presence in his life created a drastic shift in his attitude and life goals, so much so that he sacrificed himself, along with Zero Two, so that their friends could have a better future.

The reason he isn’t high on this list is that despite being a good character, he made some very questionable choices that made many fans dislike him.

5 Ichigo: This Straight-Laced Squad Leader Ultimately Supported Hiro’s Love For Zero Two

Initially, as the squad’s leader, Ichigo was wary of Zero Two, partly due to a lack of information about her and partly due to Hiro’s attraction towards her. After her plan to isolate Hiro from Zero Two fails, she eventually learns he nurses genuine feelings for Zero Two, so she ends up accepting their relationship.

She also finds a romantic partner in Goro and by the end of the anime, she married him and was expecting her first child.

4 Kokoro: A Warm & Loving Girl Who Influenced Everybody Around Her In A Positive Manner

4 darling in the franxx Kokoro

Kind, gentle, and loving, Kokoro was someone who was liked by all of her squad members, unanimously. However, she always hesitated in voicing her opinions, especially negative ones, because she disliked arguments and wanted to avoid conflicts at all costs.

This attitude of hers changed after her many interactions with Mitsuru, who made her see that she needed to become more vocal about her feelings, as well as assertive about the things she wanted in her life. She eventually married him and had four kids with him.

However, after learning about Mitsuru’s secret, as well as his mutual feelings for Kokoro, he backs off, respecting Kokoro’s decision to be with the boy she loved. He ended up becoming one of the closest friends of the couple.

1 Zero Two: This Hybrid Girl Stole The Show From The Moment She Appeared On Screen

1 darling in the franxx zero two

While she was happy and carefree on the surface, this klaxo-sapien hybrid was actually aggressive, ill-tempered, and assertive, often giving in to her feral tendencies and behaving on nothing but her sharp instincts.

Despite having a hot-and-cold relationship with Hiro, it was her mysterious past and her quirky appearance that instantly made her the most popular (as well as the most liked) character from the entire show.
