The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is bringing Madripoor to life through the creation of the island’s tourism site.
Marvel launched the website Explore Madripoor to showcase the island’s beauty and to transport fans to the lawless nation Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes visited in Episode 3 of Falcon and Winter Soldier. It was advertised as a banner on other Marvel-related sites and now has fans hunting for Easter eggs.
The site welcomes fans to the island, where “arts, culture, and nightlife meet as one.” While virtually exploring Madripoor, users are transported to the glamour of Hightown, the edge of Lowtown and “the endless night skies over Buccaneer Bay.” However, the site’s biggest draw is the Easter eggs that litter its pages. Throughout the site, fans can click around each page’s background and uncover wanted posters for Sam, Bucky, Baron Zemo and Karli Morgenthau. Each of these posters is numbered and includes a code that references the character’s first comic appearance.

There are also clues hidden on the site’s pages that reveal passwords for VIP-only areas of the website. For example, when visiting the page for the Hightown Night Club, the access code “sharoncarter” will allow users to gain access to a digital auction that includes a poster for The Falcon and Winter Soldier. The access code “powerbroker” on the “Book a Charter” page lets fans explore containers, just like in the show. From there, searching for container 4261 reveals CCTV footage from the events of Episode 3. This area of the site also provides a description that states “an explosion in Buccaneer Bay late last night is under investigation” and further information that reveals Madripoor’s authorities have discovered the remains of Dr. Wilfred Nagel. Users can also search for container 1273 to bring up a wanted poster for Sharon Carter.
Originally, the site contained other Easter eggs that referenced X-Men characters: The containers in Buccaneer Bay once included the ship names Mystique, Krakoa and Draken, as well as the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) character, Shang-Chi. Some fans were excited about these references, given Madipoor’s connection to the X-Men; however, the ship names have since been removed from the site.
Madripoor was introduced into the MCU through Episode 3 of The Falcon and Winter Soldier. It is a fictional island located in the southern portion of the Strait of Malacca, southwest of Singapore, and is divided by the rich and glamorous sections of Hightown and the poor and dangerous areas of Lowtown.
Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. New episodes air Fridays.
