Neji had a lot of promise when he was first introduced in Naruto; he was the gifted prodigy of the Hyuga Clan. From a young age, he showed he was able to master advanced jutsu with little instruction. When his peers were promoted to Chunin, he was given an extra promotion to Jonin. Everyone expected great things for Neji.
Unfortunately, Neji would die during the events of the Fourth Shinobi War. Neji gallantly sacrificed his life to save his friend Naruto. With his life cut tragically short, he wasn’t able to lead a fulfilling life and would never be able to grow up with his peers.
10 Neji Could Help Abolish The Branch Family
As a member of the branch family, Neji’s family was hesitant to acknowledge his skills. Neji’s uncle seemed shocked to discover how gifted he was during the Chunin Exams. Being a member of the branch family played a role in the death of Neji’s father.
The death of Neji changed a lot of things for the Hyuga Clan. After Hiashi watched his nephew die, he changed his opinion on a lot of things. Neji’s death meant he never got to see the changes in the Hyuga Clan. During his life, he was always a member of the branch family.
9 Neji Would Support Hinata & Naruto
A lot of fans assume that Hinata and Neji would have gotten married if he had survived. Their marriage would have helped pass the Byakugan to the next generation, but when it came to romance, Hinata only had eyes for Naruto.
Neji would have likely supported the relationship. He seemed to view Hinata as more of a sister than a romantic partner. As Naruto was one of his best friends, Neji would have likely been happy to see them together. His death meant that he never got the chance to support them or help convince the clan to let a Hyuga princess marry someone outside the clan.
8 Neji Could Have Become The Head Of The Hyuga
Despite being born in the lowly branch family, changing times could have brought Neji into the main household. He could have gotten involved in the clan’s politics.
Neji’s brilliance would have made a great choice to lead the clan or play a prominent role in the clan. An arranged marriage to his cousin, Hanabi, would have put him in the perfect position to help lead the clan into the New Era.
7 Neji Could Help Teach The Next Generation
In Boruto, it is revealed that Hanabi became a jonin instructor. She helps train three of her nephew’s classmates to become shinobi. Since Hanabi was expected to become the next leader of the Hyuga Clan, there was a time she might not have been allowed to have this career.
Great importance is placed on teaching the next generation. Neji would have followed in his cousin’s path; he could have helped pass his knowledge on to the next generation.
6 Neji Could Have Followed A Different Career Path
In Naruto‘s time, many people chose to become shinobi. The shinobi career path was more of a necessity then. In the New Era, a time of peace has been established. During Boruto’s lifetime, many people have taken on alternative careers.
Neji could have been one of the people who chose to give up the shinobi life. His cousin, Hinata, retired from being a shinobi when she decided to be a housewife and Neji could have chosen a more peaceful career. He could have picked a career that highlighted his brilliance.
5 Neji Could Have Continued His Education
Neji was largely self-taught. In Naruto, most people are shown learning the basics from their parents. The death of Neji’s parents would have prevented him from learning from them. Neji was able to learn advanced jutsu by just observing.
Guy was likely the first person to give Neji extensive personal training. Given time and freedom, Neji could have continued learning. Neji could have become one of the most knowledgable shinobi in the Leaf Village.
4 Neji Could Work Together With Sasuke
Sasuke works abroad to help protect the village that he holds dear. Neji’s status as a genius could help make him equal with Sasuke. After all, the two of them share a lot of similarities.
They both possess a keen intellect, a wide range of jutsu, and the kekkei genkai of their respective clans. They could bond over their painful pasts, becoming good friends. Neji and Sasuke could have been paired up to help protect the village from outside threats.
3 Neji Could Help Boruto Understand The Jougan & Karma
Boruto possesses two mysterious powers. He has yet to master either the jougan or the karma. There is little known about either one of these powers. When Boruto first saw the jougan, he turned to his mother’s family. They decided he didn’t have the Byakugan and then dropped the issue.
If Neji was alive, Boruto could have come to him. Neji would have likely been incredibly close to Naruto and Hinata’s children. Neji could have helped Boruto find answers and learn to control his powers and with Neji’s help, Boruto could have been more successful in his early years.
2 Neji Could Have Gotten Married & Have A Family
Many of Neji’s peers have gotten married and had families of their own. Neji’s death meant he never got the opportunity to do these things himself. Neji had a lot of prospective romantic partners.
Neji’s teammate, Tenten, obviously respected him. Hanabi could have married Neji to increase the chances of their children being born with the Byakugan. He could have settled down with someone else from his clan, Neji’s children would have likely grown up with Boruto and Metal Lee.
1 Neji Could Have Become Hokage
Naruto’s incredible skills made him an obvious choice for becoming the village’s leader. He understood the importance of the village being a cohesive group. If Neji had lived, he would have been an even better choice for Hokage.
Neji possessed an incredible mind. He seemed capable of accomplishing anything he set his mind to. And with Naruto’s influence, Neji’s ability to understand and relate to others became better. He possessed the skills to be a great Hokage.
