Star Wars: 10 Bounty Hunters Who Should Reconsider Their Career Path

In the Star Wars Universe, some of the most feared characters are bounty hunters. When scanning a list of Star Wars characters, a large percentage are bounty hunters. Of course, it helps that so many times, the protagonist of a Star Wars story has a price on their head. As General Riekan said, “A death mark’s not an easy thing to live with.”

Star Wars has numerous comic book series that expanded the legend of Star Wars. This allowed creators to add to the cast of characters. While the profession of bounty hunter seems like a viable choice, there are those bounty hunters that are less than great at their chosen profession. As it’s often said, sometimes hindsight is 20/20.

10 Boushh’s Legacy Came From Princess Leia Instead Of Anything He Ever Did

Princess Leia disguised as Boushh

If anyone knows anything about Boushh, it’s that Princess Leia used the identity to infiltrate Jabba’s palace. That alone gives Boushh enough reason to rethink his career path. When a leader of the rebellion becomes more famous wearing his armor than he ever did on his own, it was a sure sign that he was a less than successful bounty hunter.

Boushh made the mistake of accumulating blackmail material on his employers. He was noted for two things before Leia co-opted his identity: hunting surviving Jedi following Order 66, and love of thermal detonators. Eventually, Boushh demanded more payment from Black Sun for a job and Prince Xizor had him killed.

9 Remel Fud’s Misunderstanding Nearly Led To His Death

Crop from Star Wars #16

Remel Fud, whose name is a rough anagram of Elmer Fudd, worked in the gang for Valance the Hunter. He tipped off Valance to a possible location for Luke Skywalker. Seeing only the large bounty on Luke Skywalker, Valance had Fud pursue the lead, which would lead to Fud’s demise.

Remel Fud led a group to capture the giant green rabbit Jaxxon. Unfortunately, while torturing Jaxxon, his partner Amaiza came to the rabbit’s aid, killing most of the group. Fud survived but left Valance to pursue a career as a solo bounty hunter. He should probably have seen it as a sign and picked something else to do.

An encounter with Luke Skywalker drove him to change his mind about the boy and protect him from the Empire. This drove him to a confrontation with Darth Vader where he died in the corrosive water of Rubyflame Lake. Further reinforcing a reconsidering of his life, he was rescued from the lake and tasked with preventing the theft of mystical jewels which led to him dying an irrecoverable death in the Legends canon. In the current canon, Valance has re-emerged.

7 Deliah Blue Was A Better Smuggler Than A Bounty Hunter

Deliah Blue trying to rescue Cade Skywalker

In the comic series Star Wars Legacy, Cade Skywalker is part of a trio of smugglers. On that crew was his Zeltron love interest, Deliah Blue. The trio was not well suited to life as bounty hunters, but smuggling was a more natural choice.

Deliah’s ability to coerce male targets often came in handy. Her mechanical aptitude was enough to get them out of most smuggling jams. Bounty hunting was something they engaged in, but not the best thing that they could accomplish.

6 Melvin Fett Was Boba Fett’s Clueless Cousin

Melvin Fett and James Kolchaka

One of the more bizarre installments in the Star Wars Legends era was from Star Wars Tales #20. It featured stories by many creators known for more alternative work. Among those stories was James Kolchaka’s, Melvin Fett. Melvin’s the cousin of Boba Fett, which might be why he felt like becoming a bounty hunter was a good career choice.

Melvin took on collecting the bounty on former Naboo senator Jar Jar Binks. The trail takes him to Tatooine where he proceeds to capture a novelty cup featuring the likeness of Jar Jar and plays back recordings of his voice. Melvin Fett honestly believes he’s captured Jar Jar, remaining clueless.

5 Gribbet & Skorr Were “The Bounty Hunter On Ord Mantell”

The Bounty Hunter on Ord Mantell

Gribbet and Skorr are two bounty hunters only seen working as a team. Before encountering the heroes of the Rebellion, they actually reconsidered their path as bounty hunters. The destruction of the first Death Star resulted in lower bounties across their sector. Gribbet noticed the heroes on Ord Mantell and the pair hatched upon a plan to collect the bounty on Han Solo.

Gribbet had placed a tracing probe on Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber. Skorr and Gribbet followed it into a trap placed by the heroes. The probe had been hidden on an escape pod under the nose of an Imperial Admiral. The Admiral decided to make the bounty hunters an example and they were never seen again.

4 Cade Skywalker Preferred To Ignore His Destiny & Play Bounty Hunter

Cover detail to Adam Hughes Star Wars Legacy

Cade Skywalker was a descendant of Luke Skywalker who covered his origins as a Jedi Padawan by becoming a smuggler and bounty hunter. Like his associate Deliah Blue, Cade was a better smuggler than a bounty hunter. Given the attention Darth Krayt devoted to him, Cade Skywalker might have been better served to embrace his destiny as the latest in the Skywalker legacy.

Before killing Darth Krayt for the final time, many allies of his died along the way. Cade made many bad decisions all in denial of his destiny. Even after completing the task, Cade ran away with his team to be left alone, denying his role as a Jedi and never making any effort at restitution for those his indecisiveness sacrificed.

3 Greedo Yearned For Respect & It Got Him Killed

Greedo from The Yavin Vassilika

Greedo is best known as the bounty hunter who tried to bring Han Solo in for Jabba the Hutt’s bounty. He learned that it’s not wise to hold a blaster on Han Solo. In the comics, Greedo exhibited that this was the culmination of the Rodian seeking respect among bounty hunters’ ranks.

In Star Wars Underworld – The Yavin Vassilika, Greedo tried desperately to get himself in on the search for the Yavin Vassilika. It wasn’t so much for the prize offered by rival Hutts, but for respect among other bounty hunters. Greedo proved to not have what it took to pursue such a dangerous life, as evidenced by his eventual demise.

2 Booba Fett Was A Badly-Named Clone Of Boba Fett

Boba Fett or Booba Fett

Grand Admiral Thrawn had a secret plan to replace Luke Skywalker with a clone, called Luuke to differentiate him from the original.  Following the naming precedence set by Luuke and Jedi Clone Joruus C’boath, author Timothy Zahn named this clone “Booba Fett.” He only appeared in a non-canon April Fools’ story called An Apology written by Zahn.

Booba never officially appeared but would take the place of Boba in any appearances the bounty hunter made after the Zahn novels. Luuke fought against his Dark Jedi training, so perhaps Booba Fett should have as well. He did tend to get himself shot a lot, and given how Boba Fett reacted to Jodo Kast using the identity, a clone might decide to resign from bounty hunting rather than face a similar fate.

1 Jodo Kast Made The Mistake Of Impersonating Boba Fett

Crop from Boba Fett: Engines Of Destruction

On a mission for the Rebellion, Jodo Kast killed a Mandalorian named Feskitt Bobb. Repainting a set of Mandalorian armor, Jodo Kast impersonated Boba Fett before realizing it was a bad idea.

When Boba Fett was believed dead, Jodo again began impersonating the legendary bounty hunter. After escaping from the Sarlac, Boba Fett set a trap for Jodo Kast and attacked him. When a humiliated Kast tried to leave, his damaged jetpack exploded, killing him.
