The conclusion to “Demon or Detective?” takes place in the backup story of Detective Comics #1034. In it, Damian Wayne realizes that his future is not as heir to the League of Assassins, but as Robin. Damian takes to skies once more as the Boy Wonder, but little does he know that a threat lurks in another corner of the world. Indeed, the story ends with members of the League of Shadows entering an underground base. There, they remark that the arrival of the League of Lazarus is a sign that the tournament is about to start.

While this contest isn’t given a name, it will involve some of the greatest fighters in the world. The members of League of Shadows say that these fighters will soon receive their invitation to Lazarus Island for the contest. The location of the island isn’t revealed, but all of this setup sounds incredibly familiar. Indeed, the Mortal Kombat franchise is built around a group of fighters who are recruited and invited to an island to take part in an interdimensional tournament of fighters.

This crop of characters certainly plays like a selection of fighters in a video game, and we now know that they will soon travel to Lazarus Island for this tournament. For the time being, we don’t yet know if this island is on Earth, or if it’s meant to be on another plane of existence. However, what we do know is that Damian Wayne and Connor Hawke, Green Arrow’s son, will both take part in this contest of champions.

Whatever happens next, it appears this tournament promises to be something big and epic, and, with the release of the new Mortal Kombat movie is just around the corner, the timing couldn’t be better.
