Bravely Default II: How to Unlock the Bravebearer Job | CBR

In Bravely Default II, jobs define each character. This game’s version of classes from other JRPGs, jobs determine a character’s base stats, abilities and attacks, completely shaping how they work in-game. There are also passive abilities that can be used from any job that a player has unlocked, allowing for plenty of customization. Certain jobs are considered to be more viable than others, but one job in particular has additional significance.

The Bravebearer job is unlocked alongside Bravely Default II‘s true ending. The series is known for including multiple endings, each with its own unlockables and secrets for players who decide to seek them out. The Bravebearer job is unlocked when players are able to find the game’s true ending, which in turn can only be found by completing the game and reloading their save.

From there, players will find they can skip the final boss fight against Edna. Leaving the area will give the player access to Chapter Six of the game and another ending. This gives players story details that reveal the Bravebearer Asterisk as a core plot device and unlocks a quest that involved locating pieces of an artifact that, once assembled, will grant players access to the Bravebearer class.

In Bravely Default 2‘s lore, an important warrior named Sir Sloan helped fight against the game’s main antagonist, the Night’s Nexus, 50 years before the events of the game. Sir Sloan happened possess the Bravebearer Asterisk, a critical tool in the fight against the Nexus. A lot Sir Sloan’s story is conveyed to the player through flashbacks that also serve as their main hints towards how to unlock the game’s true ending.

After completing the artifact quest in Chapter Six, players will have a fairly difficult secret boss fight to complete before being able to use the Bravebearer Asterisk. This job is vital in getting Bravely Default II‘s true ending, as players will need to have the Asterisk assembled to trigger it. While this may seem like a lot to unlock the game’s definitive ending, this is fairly standard for the Bravely Default series.

All of these steps are worth it for the sheer power of the Bravebearer. Of note is the class’ S-rank base skills in HP, MP, Healing Power and Magic, which play well with the Bravebearer’s abilities. Most of their abilities benefit from keeping the Bravebearer’s HP high and making quick work of weaker enemies with abilities like Obliterate. Another great ability is Sword Lore, which gives the Bravebearer some adaptability by living them an S in their Sword skill.

The Bravebearer also has tons of abilities that they can use to buff their allies. Dawn of Odyssey causes allies and enemies to gain one Brave Point three times at set intervals. Brave Point generation is another big theme of this class, such as with BP Bump and Equalizer. Across the Board is an incredibly unique ability that lets single-target abilities strike multiple enemies.

Most players couple Bravebearer with the Hellblade subclass, though any subclass will be able to take advantage of the class’ massive power. Their special ability, Limit Break, lets them strike an opponent with a powerful physical attack that boosts all allies’ BP by one. Considering its massive potential and power, it makes sense that the Bravebearer is unlocked behind several post-game missions and endings.
