The opening reviews for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are starting to pop up on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics approving of the second Marvel Studios series for Disney+.
At the time of this writing, the first episode of Falcon and Winter Soldier sits at 95% on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer with 98 critic ratings. 93 critics have Falcon and Winter Soldier rated “Fresh,” while five rated the Marvel Cinematic Universe series as “Rotten.”
“An ambitious blend of big screen action and intimate storytelling, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s opening episode makes a strong case that smaller MCU moments can still pack a serious punch,” the critics’ consensus reads.
CBR’s review of Falcon and Winter Soldier says the series succeeds in carrying the legacy of Captain America. Christian Holub of Entertainment Weekly says the “premise is fairly straightforward, and the show begins with a globe-trotting action scene similar to the ones that kicked off the titular characters’ first two appearances in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War.” As for a “Rotten” score, Nick Allen of RogerEbert.com says Falcon and Winter Soldier “leaves one hoping the show’s later episodes are treated with more imagination and ambition.”
Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. The series is now streaming on Disney+, with new episodes releasing every Friday.
