Warning: The following contains major spoilers for Chapter 305, the latest chapter of the My Hero Academia manga.
Every series, even the best ones, have a few annoying flaws that even dedicated fans have to acknowledge. My Hero Academia is no exception. In over 300 chapters, fans have been introduced to an entirely different world along with so many characters that it is impossible to remember them all.
Not every character is a big hit, and sometimes the rules of the world don’t make sense. The events that occur are sometimes a little too convenient as well, meant mainly to progress the plot or to make a character look better. Most of the time, this hurts a character’s image and the series in the eyes of a fan.
10 Katsuki Bakugo Isn’t Really Punished
Katsuki always bullied Deku where anyone could see. In fact, it preferred it that way since he enjoyed publicly humiliating him. No one ever intervened, so Katsuki was free to hit him and terrorize him with his explosive quirk. When Deku revealed the quirk in front of Katsuki for the first time, Katsuki’s first reaction was to rush towards him to attack him. Although restrained by Eraserhead, he doesn’t receive any significant punishment.
9 Some Students Don’t Feel Like A Good Fit For Class 1-A
During the practical test required to get into U.A., the students needed to take down as many giant robots as they could. It seems hard to believe that certain students had the power to meet U.A.’s requirements for this exam. Koji Koda’s quirk allows him to talk to animals, and Toru Hagakure’s quirk grants her invisibility.
Neither of these quirks would have helped them take down giant robots. Eraserhead also never expels anyone regardless of their behavior. Katsuki is one example of someone with a terrible attitude, and Minoru Mineta’s behavior is also inappropriate most times.
8 Some Quirks Seem Difficult To Discover
A person’s quirk usually appears when a child is around four years old. However, some quirks seem difficult to discover. Usually, children have only discovered their quirks due to plot convenience. For example, it’s difficult to imagine how someone like Stain would discover a quirk when he needed to consume blood to use it. Even Tomura Shigaraki may have never discovered his quirk if it weren’t for the tragic events that happened in his past.
7 There’s Not Enough Character Development For Many Characters
With so many students being in Class 1-A, it is difficult to devote enough time to flesh out their characters. Students like Mashirao Ojiro, Mezo Shoji, Koji Koda, and Toru Hagakure have seen little to no development. This is especially problematic since the U.A. staff have already confirmed that there is a spy hidden within Class 1-A. Since these characters have received so little attention, fans are speculating that the spy is one of those characters.
6 The Anime Constantly Reintroduces People To The Cast
The anime frequently take the time to reintroduce viewers to the students. These text boxes contain their names and explain their quirks. They come and go rather quickly, so fans that are reading the subtitles at the same time usually don’t have enough time to soak in the introductions. The introductions annoy some fans, but others are not bothered by them because there are so many names to remember. Each character has a first and last name that are used interchangeably, as well as a hero name.
5 Tomura Shigaraki Is Not The Most Interesting Villain
Tomura is Deku’s primary villain, being the one behind the chaos most of the time. Unfortunately, Tomura’s character is akin to a cruel, sadistic child whose only purpose was to serve as All For One’s puppet.
In recent chapters, All For One has taken over his successor’s body, making Tomura’s role as the villain up until that point seem meaningless. Although Tomura was responsible for the death of many heroes, Deku expresses the desire to save him.
4 The Redemption Of Endeavor
Many fans are not pleased with the fact that Endeavor is trying to redeem himself, as he has done things that are unforgivable. Although it may have seemed like the story was trying to excuse his actions, further interactions with his family have shown that none of them are ready to forgive him. Regardless, many are just not interested in seeing Endeavor’s character arc to begin with and find his efforts to change jarring.
3 There Are No Quirkless Heroes
A person’s worth is based on the kind of quirk that they have. Having a good quirk opens up a realm of possibilities when it comes to finding a job. Quirkless people are unfortunately looked down on and often find themselves at the mercy of others. Despite Deku’s journey and discovering that even he can become a hero, there have been no quirkless heroes. Everyone in the series seems to think that it is entirely impossible to be a hero without a quirk. Even Deku needed to obtain a quirk in order to achieve his dreams.
2 Quirkless People Vanished
In the most recent chapters of the manga, the previous users of One For All told Deku that he would be the last wielder of One For All, given the fact that quirkless people have disappeared in his generation. This makes no sense, given that it had already been established that 20% of the Earth’s total population are quirkless. Fans have even been introduced to other people without a quirk, such as Melissa Shield. This is a rather odd plothole made solely to make Deku stand out more.
1 Little Mention Of Deku’s Father
So far, Deku’s father has been entirely absent from the story. Even when Deku was much younger and mourning the fact that he was quirkless, only his mother was there to comfort him. Thanks to his absence, fans have no idea what kind of character he is. He’s been on a ridiculously long business trip, and there has been no sign of him trying to reach out to his son despite the countless struggles that Deku had to go through.
