REVIEW: The Child Unisex Mandalorian Shoes | CBR

Although Season 2 of Disney+’s The Mandalorian has ended, fans of the Star Wars series — and its breakout star, Grogu — can still put their fandom on proud display with The Child Unisex Mandalorian Shoes.

The series premiere of The Mandalorian ended with bounty hunter Din Djarin discovering an infant from the same species as Jedi Master Yoda. Dubbed “The Child” by Lucasfilm, Star Wars fans quickly renamed the green bundle of joy “Baby Yoda” and he immediately took the world by storm. However, it wasn’t until midway through Season 2 that we finally learned his real name was Grogu, courtesy of Ahsoka Tano.

The Child Unisex Mandalorian Shoes, sold exclusively by FUN.com, are composed of faux leather and vinyl with comfortable foam inserts. Aesthetically, they’re evocative of Converse All-Stars (aka Chuck Taylors) and come in solid black with white trim and prints of the icon formerly known as Baby Yoda all over. The back and laces are mint green, as well as the tongues, which are arguably the highlight of the footwear as they extend outward to capture the full likeness of Grogu, ears and all. Size-wise, they’re available in Men’s 5-12 and Women’s 7-14.

As far as comfort, the shoes very much mirror the aforementioned Chuck Taylors, with a thin sole for good ground contact (great for weightlifting, if you want to display your fandom at the gym) and plenty of flexibility. However, like with the Taylors, those with a wider foot may want to opt for one size larger.

While the shoes feel relatively durable out of the box, the faux leather and the $39.99 price tag suggest they might not be built to last under everyday wear or harsh conditions. And, while comfortable, the sneakers do take some getting used to as a result of the Grogu-shaped tongue. If you wish to have the ears extended out, you’re better off lacing the shoes just below the top set of holes and going with a no-tie option so you can tuck the excess inside the sneakers. Otherwise, you can simply tuck the ears in and lace the shoes up to the top; there are certainly options — it’s just a matter of determining what’s most comfortable for you.

The Child Unisex Mandalorian Shoes retail for $39.99 are available exclusively from FUN.com.
