Former Batwoman lead actor Ruby Rose has opened up for the first time since her decision to exit the series was announced. On her Instagram page, the 34-year-old actor expressed thanks for those involved with the show and said it wasn’t “an easy decision,” but alluded to something additional that led to her decision – “… those who know, know…”
“Thank you everyone for coming on this journey. If I mentioned everyone it would be 1000 tags.. but Thank you to the cast, crew, producers and studio. It wasn’t an easy decision but those who know, know..,” Rose wrote. “I didn’t want to not acknowledge everyone involved and how big this was for TV and for our community. I have stayed silent because that’s my choice for now but know I adore you all. I’m sure next season will be amazing also. Xxx *hangs up cowl and cape.”
Although not confirmed, Variety previously reported that Rose left the show due to the long hours required of playing the series lead, which led to unspecified “tension” between the actor and the production.
Prior to her announced exit, CW renewed Batwoman for a second season to debut in January 2021. In conjuction with Rose’s exit, the CW said the show will take a “new direction” with “a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community…”
