In light of WarnerMedia’s decision to put a #SnyderCut edition of Justice League into production, Suicide Squad writer/director David Ayer has come out arguing for a similar treatment to his 2016 film.
“My cut would be easy to complete,” Ayer tweeted in a response to a question about it. “It would be incredibly cathartic for me. It’s exhausting getting your ass kicked for a film that got the Edward Scissorhands treatment. The film I made has never been seen.”
Ayer’s Suicide Squad went through extensive reshoots according to Deadline, and the writer/director has mentioned various times that there were numerous deleted scenes to the 2016 film.
Warner Bros. has a history of releasing director’s cut editions of its DC superhero films, going back to the 2006 release of Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut, and the upcoming release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
A sequel to Ayer’s Suicide Squad by writer/director James Gunn is currently in post-production for an August 6, 2021 release.
