Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld says he has “assessed” Marvel Studios’ schedule for the next several years and “doesn’t see” Deadpool 3 being made “for the next five years.”

“Regardless of whatever inside perspective I may have, what I do know is that until a movie is put on a schedule, it’s not taken seriously,” Liefeld told i09 about his understanding of Marvel Studios’ schedule. “And what people don’t like is that I have assessed the schedule for the next, give or take, five years and I don’t see Deadpool on it. [So] I don’t see that it can arrive earlier than that.”

It’s unclear if Liefeld is referring to a private schedule he’s been privy to, or if he’s basing his assessment of the publicly released Marvel Studios schedule which now has films and streaming TV shows planned and dated through 2023. Disney-Marvel have five dates reserved for films that haven’t been publicly revealed – Oct. 7, 2022 and four in 2023, with the likelihood they’ll release no less than four films every year moving forward.

However, Liefeld states he does have insider knowledge of the development process for the film – and what he claims to know doesn’t look good for Deadpool 3.

“Do I know that there is no movement on a Deadpool 3 right now? I know that. Yes,” Liefeld stated. “And does that worry me? No. Not at all. What I did was I answered a question honestly. And what I learned this week is just lie. Just tell people everything is lollipop and unicorns and rainbows and you’ll be better off in your life because people want to be lied to. Just because some guy goes, ‘Yeah, We’re still moving along’ that’s code for ‘There’s nothing to see here.’”

Deadpool actor/producer Ryan Reynolds recently opened up about bringing Deadpool to the MCU saying he sees it as a “win-win” for everyone.

“I don’t feel like an insider at all. I think once I’m more intimate with it – if we get to make a Deadpool 3 … if or when we get to make a Deadpool 3, I’ll probably have a better perspective on that,” Reynolds explained of the current Deadpool 3 development process at the beginning of May. “But I’m a huge fan of Marvel, and how they make movies. So when Disney bought Fox, I only saw that as a good thing. Deadpool hopefully being allowed to play in that sandbox, I think is just a win for everyone involved. But we’ll certainly see.”

Back in December 2019, Reynolds said the film was “in the big leagues” with Marvel, and that development had begun, stating “We’re working on it with the whole team.”
