Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are re-teaming to co-star and co-produce Ball and Chain, based on the Scott Lobdell Homage/Wildstorm four-issue limited series from 1999 and what Deadline calls Hollywood’s “hot spec package.”
According to the online trade, the project is being shopped to studios, including Netflix, but so far it hasn’t closed a deal.
The adaptation will reportedly be written by Oscar nominee Emily V. Gordon (“The Big Sick”).
The comedic Ball and Chain (which was drawn by Alé Garza) follows a “bickering couple who receive super powers that only work if they can learn to put aside their differences and work together,” according to Deadline, who fully describe the series this way:
“Edgar and Mallory Bulson have decided to throw in the towel. That was the plan anyway, until a mysterious meteor bathed the battling couple in extraterrestrial energies that gave them super-powers. Will their newfound abilities be enough to make their marriage work?”
Blunt and Johnson co-star in Disney’s Jungle Cruise based on the theme park ride, which is currently scheduled for release on July 30, 2021 after originally being slated for a July 24, 2020 bow.
