Brian K. Vaughan and Marcos Martin’s rare, out-of-print The Walking Dead: The Alien one-shot is being reprinted by Image Comics/Skybound Entertainment in hardcover.
“I couldn’t be a bigger fan of Vaughan and Martin’s work,” The Walking Dead creator/writer Robert Kirkman said in the announcement. “I’ve been very hesitant to allow anyone to play in The Walking Dead sandbox in comic form but when the opportunity arose for these gents to show up what Charlie Adlard and I had been doing, I jumped at the chance.”
The one-shot originally debuted as a digital exclusive on Vaughan and Martin’s PanelSyndicate.com, and was later printed as a limited edition release for 2019’s Local Comic Shop Day. Image/Skybound’s new hardcover edition will include previously-unreleased designs, sketches, and layouts by Martin.
“It’s remarkable what Vaughan and Martin were able to accomplish in one self-contained story,” Kirkman continued. “A tale with so much heart and emotion told far more succinctly than I’ve ever been capable of. I’m so thrilled to finally be sharing this story with a wider audience in this spectacular hardcover edition.”
The Walking Dead: The Alien HC is scheduled to go on-sale July 29 in comic book stores, and August 4 in bookstores.
