#Creators4Comics has announced that the charity campaign has raised $433,166 so far U.S. comic book shops. The five-day campaign organized and auctioned off various original art, services, experiences and more from comic creators, with the winning bidders donating directly to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation, which has been organized a fund for U.S. comic book retailers.
“Comic shops and indie bookstores have supported so many of us,” said writer Kami Garcia, who originally organized #Creators4Comics. “They aren’t just places where we buy books and comics. These stores are places where we find belonging.”
#Creators4Comics was organized by Garcia, Brian Michael Bendis, Gwenda Bond, Sam Humphries, and Phil Jimenez.
Over the five-day campaign, items were auctioned off from many creators including Frank Miller, Neil Gaiman, Patton Oswalt, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Joe Hill, Shannon Hale, Mike Mignola, Brad Meltzer, Mariko Tamaki, Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Marissa Meyer, Danielle Paige, Gene Luen Yang, Tom King, Bryan Edward Hill, Jason Aaron, Marc Guggenheim, Gail Simone, Vita Ayala, Bryan Lee O’Malley, Cassandra Clare, Marieke Nijkamp, Margaret Stohl, Jock, Mico Suayan, and G. Willow Wilson.
Additionally, some comic creators/celebrities like Damon Lindelof, Robert Kirkman, and Seth Meyers provided matching bids on certain auctions.
BINC Executive Director Pam French has said that #Creators4Comics resulted in the organization breaking its record for the most funds received in one day.
“It’s incredible how creators and fans stepped up to support our friends, our community, our foundation,” said writer Sam Humphries, who was among the organizers. “This money will be the difference between life and death for comic stores and indie bookstores.”
