Writer Jeff Parker and artist Evan ‘Doc’ Shaner have shared details of an unused pitch for a series based on Jack Kirby’s Etrigan, the Demon.

Piggybacking off a fan on Twitter who shared some Etrigan art by Shaner, the artist himself chimed in to point out that the piece (seen here) is from an unused pitch with Parker, with whom Shaner collaborated on DC’s Hanna-Barbera Future Quest.

“One of my favorite character designs ever. I think it’s one of the most interesting dual identity setups in comics,” Shaner said. “The Arthurian stuff. Jason Blood. The Kirby run is my kind of weird. This piece was in a pitch for a 12-issue Demon book with [Jeff Parker] that I’ll never shut up about.”

“Doc and I were essentially shooting for this to be our New Frontier,” Parker added – though without many details. “I guess there’s no reason it still couldn’t happen?”
