Perhaps DC’s most popular, breakthrough new character since Harley Quinn, The Batman Who Laughs is the latest subject of DC Chief Creative Officer and Publisher Jim Lee’s 60-day daily sketch auction for charity. The bidding is already up to $5,600 over 33 bids with more than 48 hours still left in the auction.
Proceeds will be donated to Book Industry Charitable Foundation (BINC) aimed at helping comic book stores and their employees during the coronavirus crisis and will be on top of WarnerMedia’s $250k pledge to the organization.
The eBay auction page can be found here.
60 original 9″x12″ DC characters sketches will be auctioned off each day over two months and has already drawn considerable interest. The first sketch of Nightwing fetched $6,501 dollars and Bizarro $4,769.
New sketches added over the weekend are Azrael (current bid $5,400, ends Monday) and Doctor Fate (current bid: $5,100, ends Tuesday).
BINC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to assisting booksellers in need – including comic booksellers. In the past, BINC has offered financial assistance to comic book stores affected by natural disasters and other unexpected financial crises.
On March 18, BINC stepped up to specify its continued support of comic book retailers in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
