The first episode of Joe Q’s Mornin’ Warm-Up! is in the books. The new and highly informal show on YouTube featuring Marvel’s EVP/Creative Director Joe Quesada actually went live in the late, late, late morning, about 6 p.m. Eastern time on Monday. A follow-up, guest-starring Marvel Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, will hopefully hit on Tuesday. We did say “informal” after all.

Quesada has a love of explaining process and giving short tutorials, and those will be features of the show, which will broadcast one to three times per week (or more, or less, informally, as time goes on). There will also be a tad more, as soon as Quesada figures it out…

Newsarama: Are you definitely going off on Tuesday? With Cebulski?

Joe Quesada: I’m going to try. Try! Right now, honestly, this all feels really overwhelming because I’m still at home, but I’m working. So I’m trying to juggle this with the regular work. It’s the first time I’m doing this, and getting used to the setup, the application I’m using to broadcast this, which I’m doing for the first time, it’s taking up more time than I wanted it to.

But hopefully, as this becomes easier, it’ll be just plug-and-play and we go. So if you can live with the poor production values, I’ll be here to do it on a regular basis. We’ll see what happens as we get out of this self-quarantine thing. It might become a little more difficult with my travel schedule, but I’ll try it. I’ll try for [Tuesday]. And if not, Wednesday.

Nrama: You mentioned other guest stars. You must have a wish list. Who have you asked, who do you have lined up?

Quesada: I’m going to have some friends of mine, maybe some people you wouldn’t expect. It’s not going to me all Marvel-centric. I spoke to an old friend who used to work at Marvel—I’m not going to tell you who it is—to see if I can sneak them into a show. I spoke to a couple musician friends of mine, so maybe we’ll have some music. We’ll see. I’m going to play it by ear. I have people already texting me, emailing me, saying “Hey, I wanna be on the show.” I’m telling them, “You really should see it first.”

But seriously, I’m really making it up as I go along. There will be some quick, 10-minute tutorials, maybe some longer half-hour interviews with no tutorials. I really can’t promise any given episode will contain a particular thing, outside of my big, fat head.

Nrama: So there’s no central message?

Quesada: If there is, it’s just “back to basics.” It’s kind of a throwback to what I did when I started as editor in chief with the online column, and the Cup o’ Joe panels that grew out of that. Those were fun to do, and I want to just do something fun here. It’s a way to connect with fans, and I do love connecting with them. We’ll start a q-and-a feature and we’ll be able to get a little of that back-and-forth, too.

Nrama: I gotta ask: What are those countdown clocks in the background in your home studio?

Quesada: Hah! One of them is a Christmas countdown clock, because who doesn’t love Christmas? But I gotta admit, it’s a little off right now. I have to fix it. The other one…I’m sorry, I’m not going to tell you?

Nrama: Is it St. Patrick’s Day? Every Irish pub worth its salt has one of those counting down to St. Patrick’s Day.

No. But, when it gets to zero, you’ll know.
