Writer Tom King has shared two pieces of concept art for an aborted Superboy title that was intended to launch as part of DC’s “New 52.”

Design for the return of Superboy by Kenneth Rocafort. This was part of a ‘New 52’ Superboy series I was supposed to write a bunch of years ago that fell apart for many reasons,” King wrote on Facebook. “Design is still cool though. Never posted it before I don’t think.”

The series was to co-star a new Miss Martian, for what King calls “a whole Young Justice romance thing.”

Another design from that Superboy ‘New 52’ series I didn’t end up making,” King wrote. “This was supposed to be the new Miss Martian. We were going to do a whole Young Justice romance thing. Would’ve been fun. This character inspired a Durlan named Chimera who was a Titan for a while. Wasn’t as fun.”

King did not give a reason for why the Superboy series never ended up happening.

The writer made his DC debut during the tail end of “New 52” with a short in a 2013 Vertigo anthology, before he was paired with Tim Seeley for a 2014 Nightwing issue which later turned into the ‘DCYou’ era title Grayson.
