Alvin Lu has been named President and CEO of Kodansha USA Publishing as part of what Publisher’s Weekly describes as a “restructuring” by the parent company, Kodansha Ltd. Lu is promoted up from being the company’s General Manager, and replaces former President/CEO Kohei Furakawa.
Lu will oversee the manga giant’s North American operations, which include the publishing company Vertical and Kodansha Advanced Media, which controls the company’s digital content.
“Kodansha has more than 50 years of publishing history in the U.S., and we aim to accelerate and expand our global business by setting North America as its main pillar,” said Kodanasha Ltd.’s Senior Vice-President in a statement. “We believe the consolidation will strengthen our corporate equity and enhance more efficient and speedy business operation.”
Other hires include Takashi Sakuda as COO, Kiichiro Sugawara as Publisher, and comiXology alum Ivan Salazar as Senior Marketing Director.
