Walt Disney Pictures has decided to dust off the long-dormant Nicholas Cage film franchise National Treasure with plans for a third film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Bad Boys for Life screenwriter Chris Bremner has reportely been taped to write a third National Treasure film, with franchise producer Jerry Bruckeimer also onboard. Cage’s involvement was not mentioned.
National Franchise starred Cage as a historian/archeologist named Benjamin Franklin Gates, whose expertise lie in the minutae of American history – and the secrets it purportedly holds. After a hit film in 2004, Cage returned in 2007 for a sequel – Book of Secrets.
