FREDRIC WERTHAM’s Life & Dark Effects on Comics Spotlighted in Upcoming Stage Play SEDUCTION OF THE INNOCENT

Writer/director Lenny Schwartz has shared photos from a rehearsal for his upcoming play, based on the life of comics critic Dr. Fredric Wertham. The show, Seduction fo the Innocent, is playing this month at the Rise Playhouse in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

“Based upon the true story of German-American psychiatrist and author Dr. Fredric Wertham, the play chronicles his role as a progressive psychiatrist before becoming a vocal critic against comic books, blaming them for juvenile delinquency,” reads the description for the play. “This campaign from the late 1940s into the 1950s, led to the writing and publication of his book, Seduction of The Innocent, which nearly destroyed the comic book industry.”

The play stars Michael Thurber (Dr. Fredric Wertham), Geoff White (Albert Fish, Rain Blair Jolioceur), Grace Chenot (Alice), and Dave Almeida (William Gianes).
