Jayme Lawson has been cast in an unspecified but “notable” role in Warner Bros.’s The Batman, according to Collider.
Lawson, a recent Juilliard graduate, has one film credit to her name – a small role in the 2015 short WillShake (narrated by Tom Hiddleston).
According to Collider, Lawson said in a Juilliard video that Catwoman is a dream role for her. That role, of course, was taken by Zoe Kravitz, but a small consolation prize to that could in Lawson playing Batgirl.
Jeffrey Wright was previously confirmed to be playing Commissioner James “Jim” Gordon in The Batman. Lawson – who, like Wright, is of African descent – could be a potential fit for Barbara “Babs” Gordon, which would certainly quailify as a “notable” role.
The Batman is due out in theaters June 25, 2021.
