A female-fronted live-action Zorro reboot is in development at CBS, as first reported by Deadline.
Magnum P.I.‘s Alfredo Barrios Jr. is developing this new Zorro revamp as part of a first-look production deal between the film company Propagate and CBS.
“Zorro, written and executive produced by Barrios Jr., is a modern-day retelling of the Zorro mythology that follows Z, a female descendant of the warrior bloodline who will go to great lengths to protect the defenseless in her community,” reads hye Hollywood trade’s description of the show.
The prose-based superhero Zorro has appeared in numerous film and TV adaptations, including a previous one at CBS – a short-lived Zorro & Son series in 1983.
A 1994 Republic film serial, Zorro’s Black Whip, featured a woman – actor Linda Stirling – in the lead role, albiet called the Black Whip. Decades later, Dynamite Entertainment’s Lady Zorro featured a female version of Zorro as well.
