Dove Cameron, the voice of Marvel Rising‘s Gwen Stacy/Ghost Spider, wants to bring her role to live action in the MCU – on one condition. She’s gotta be an “equal match” for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.
“I would love to play Gwen Stacy. I would love to play Spider-Gwen, or Ghost Spider, or whatever kind of incarnation they’re going to make her into. I think that she’s such a great character,” Cameron told Yahoo! Entertainment. “I was really honored when they asked me to voice her and I would love a chance to audition.”
“I think any kind of action girl – that’s my type of girl!” Cameron continued. “I would love it if she was an equal match. I would love it if she was a physical threat… if she was quite a force.”
In addition to voicing the animated Gwen Stacy, Cameron appeared as the character “Ruby” in several episodes of ABC’s Marvel TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – though given the apparent divide between Marvel TV and Marvel Studios (and the likelihood Gwen Stacy/Ghost Spider’s film rights are controlled by Sony Pictures) that double casting likely wouldn’t be an issue, should the role come up – akin to Mahershala Ali playing Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes in Netflix’s Luke Cage, then later cast as Marvel Studios’ Blade.
Gwen Stacy was previously played by Emma Stone in Amazing Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man 2, which preceded the current MCU incarnation.
Marvel Studios and Sony recently struck a deal to bring Spider-Man back to the MCU for one more solo film and an additional appearance in one other movie.
