HE-MAN Movie May Go to Netflix – Report

Sony may sell its in development He-Man reboot movie directly to Netflix rather than risk a box office flop, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Citing an unnamed source, THR reports that Sony Pictures Tom Rothman is weighing the possibility of selling the film, based on Mattel’s Masters of the Universe toyline, to Netflix for a flat, no risk payday rather than distributing the film to theaters where Sony worries it could fail to turn a sizable profit.

However, as THR points out, this strategy runs the opposite risk where the film could be a money-earner on Netflix, leaving Sony with only the flat purchase price in terms of profit.

Paramount Pictures has already struck a similar deal to distribute films such as The Cloverfield Paradox on Netflix, with more planned.

Meanwhile, He-Man spin-off property She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is entering its fourth season on Netflix, while a new direct Masters of the Universe revival series titled Revelation is also in development for Netflix.

The in development He-Man film stars Noah Centineo in the title role with a projected March 5, 2021 release date.
