Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been cast in an as-yet-unnamed lead role for Warner Bros.’s fourth The Matrix film, according to Variety. If this report proves correct, Abdul-Mateen would join the returning Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Variety reports that there have been rumors that a younger actor was being sought to play an earlier version of Laurence Fishburne’s Morpheus, but the Hollywood trade says their source wouldn’t confirm that – or say if Abdul-Mateen would be in that role.
Abdul-Mateen II is perhaps best known for his roles in Aquaman and Black Mirror, and is set to play a role in HBO’s upcoming Watchmen as well.
Warner Bros. has not set a release date for this fourth Matrix film, but production is anticipated to begin in early 2020.
