Henry Golding is reportedly in “early talks” to play G.I. Joe‘s Snake-Eyes for Paramount Pictures’ upcoming solo film, according to Variety. Red‘s Robert Schwentke has already signed on to direct Snake-Eyes, based on a script by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Beauty & the Beast, The Huntsman: Winter’s War).
Snake-Eyes was originally created by writer/editor Larry Hama for Marvel Comics’ G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero licensed comic book, spinning out of a Hama’s rejected pitch for a new Marvel team book called Fury Force led by Nick Fury, Jr.
Golding is best known for playing Nick Young in the film Crazy Rich Asians, and also hosts the long-running BBC series The Travel Show.
Long-time G.I. Joe producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura has previously said that the Snake-Eyes film is a prequel to the two previous G.I. Joe films, necessitating a younger actor than Ray Park – who played Snake-Eyes in those two films.
Snake-Eyes is scheduled to hit theaters October 16, 2020.
