Aquaman co-writer/director James Wan has already agreed to return for a 2022 sequel, but before he does that he reportedly wants to return to his roots: horror. Variety reports that Wan has signed on to direct an “untitled secret horror project” for Warner Bros. subsidiary New Line Cinema.
Wan prevously worked with New Line Cinema on his popular The Conjuring franchise, and is also producing a Mortal Kombat reboot for the company
Wan will reportedly co-write the new horror film with his fiancee Ingrid Bisu, who played Sister Oana in the Wan-produced film The Nun.
Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema reportedly expect Wan to be able to film this horror movie relatively quickly in the fall of 2019, then move directly into pre-production on the Aquaman sequel in 2020. Wan is also attached to a spin-off film focused on the Trench.
The Aquaman sequel is set for release December 16, 2022.
