To celebrate the impending release of the globetrotting adventure of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Snapchat and Sony Pictures Entertainment have teamed up to bring Spider-Man to four real world landmarks through Snapchat’s augmented reality technology, as reported by Variety.
Visitors to TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, the Flatiron Building in New York Ctiy, Buckingham Palace in London, and the Eiffel Tower in Paris can add an AR filter to photos they take of the landmarks in Snapchat that brings Spider-Man into action and into their photos.
Mysterio will also appear in the Snapchat lens, which allows users to ultimately take a picture ‘with’ Spider-Man in their chosen location.
“In Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter Parker travels the globe, so it only made sense to enable augmented-reality effects for Spidey fans around the world,” said Elias Plishner, EVP digital marketing, Sony Pictures Entertainment in a statement.
If you can’t afford to travel to one of these locales, you can bring one of them to you – through the magic of pizza. Pizza chain Papa John’s has also teamed with Sony and Snapchat to deliver (literally) a Spider-Man AR experience into the hands of folks who order Papa John’s Spider-Man: Far From Home XL pizza.
The XL pizza comes in a Far From Home themed box with an AR code that, when scanned through Snapchat, turns the image of the box into either the Palace of Westminster and Tower Bridge in London or the Rialto Bridge in Venice, Italy. AdWeek has video of the effect.
“This augmented reality encounter will allow Papa John’s to elevate the pizza-eating moment by giving consumers a fun, interactive and contextual experience,” said Papa John’s Chief Marketing Officer Karlin Linhardt. “We are excited to be the first pizza company to offer augmented reality through Snapcode on our boxes, giving users the experience of seeing iconic architecture like Big Ben, the Venice canals and Tower Bridge while they enjoy our pizza wherever they choose.”
Spider-Man: Far From Home is due out in North American theaters July 2. The Snapchat lenses is available now, when near any of the four landmarks or when you order Papa John’s Spider-Man themed pizza.
