A set of ‘leaked’ documents posted on Marvel.com under the header “test/DO_NOT_PUBLISH” delves into the secret history of Marvel’s Weapon Plus program – the clandestine military operation that created super soldiers such as Captain America, Wolverine, Deadpool, and more.
The heavily ‘redacted’ pages are accompanied on Marvel.com by blocks of broken website coding, designed to make it appear as though the documents were posted in error to an incomplete page.
So what are these mystery documents?
The answer is likely simple – they probably have something to do with Wolverine & Captain America: Weapon Plus #1, a July one-shot from writer Ethan Sacks and artist Diogenes Neves that revisits the Weapon Plus program’s early days, and the connections between ‘Weapon I’ – Captain America – and ‘Weapon X’ – Wolverine.
But who is ‘Weapon XIII’ – the other subject listed in the documents? None other than Fantomex, the genetically engineered super-thief whose body is currently inhabited by the mind of Professor Charles Xavier – now calling himself simply ‘X’ – who will be at the center of writer Jonathan Hickman’s upcoming House ofX/Powers of X X-Men relaunch.
As for the other Weapon Plus subjects, here’s a quick rundown of who’s who among the most notable test subjects:
Weapon I – Captain America, Protocide, Queen
Weapon III – Skinless Man
Weapon VII – Nuke
Weapon X – Wolverine, Sabretooth, Deadpool
Weapon XII – Huntsman
Weapon XIII – Fantomex
Weapon XIV – Stepford Cuckoos
Weapon XV – Ultimaton
Weapon XVI – Allgod
Weapon: Infinity – Deathlok
How does it all tie-in? We’ll likely find out when Wolverine & Captain America: Weapon Plus #1 comes out on July 10.
