Warner Bros. has set May 21, 2021 as the release date for director Taika Waititi’s live action adaptation of Akira, according to Deadline.
That places the film head-to-head with John Wick 4. Warner Bros. recently shifted its animated DC Super-Pets movie from May 21, 2021 to May 22, 2022.
Leonardo DiCaprio will produce Waititi’s Akira.
No specific plot details have been revealed, but Waititi previously stated that he would not attempt a direct adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo’s original manga story, or the anime film that previously adapted a portion of that manga.
