George Clooney says that he warned Ben Affleck not to take on the Batman role for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Clooney, who produced Affleck’s 2012 directorial effort Argo, briefly mentioned the exchange in an interview with the Awards Chatter podcast.

“I actually did talk to him about it,” Clooney said. “I said, ‘Don’t do it.'”

Clooney played Batman in 1997’s Batman & Robin, replacing Val Kilmer.

“I screwed it up so badly, I’m not allowed to weigh in on any of those subject matters anymore,” Clooney told Variety recently when asked about who should be cast as the next Batman following Affleck.

Affleck ultimately played Batman for three films – Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Justice League. Affleck officially departed the role in 2019, saying that after being unable to follow through with his plans to direct a solo Batman film he felt “it was time to let someone take a shot at it.
