A second, new story has been added to the planned contents of DC’s planned hardcover “deluxe” edition of Detective Comics #1000 due out June 12. Alan Grant and Scott McDaniel have reunited for a new story about Anarky and the Ventriloquist called “Through the Key Hole,” which Grant co-created decades ago.

“Batman has been my favorite comics character since I was four years old and working on the character has been the high point of my career,” Grant said. “Seeing Scott’s artwork on the Detective #1000 story really brought home to me how much I love the character, and I think Batman has at least another 80 years of crime-fighting left in him!”

Grant and McDaniel last worked together on 1996’s Batman Chronicles #5.

“Batman has always been my absolute favorite superhero, and it’s truly a humbling honor to be a part of this incredible Bat-milestone,” said McDaniel. “By sheer determination and commitment, Bruce Wayne transformed tragedy into triumph; as Batman, he bravely and boldly lives out everyone’s desire to defend the weak against those who would prey upon them. Batman’s history is incredibly rich, with contributions from some of the most talented writers and artists who have ever worked in comics, and I’m proud to be part of that legacy.”

Two pages from Grant and McDaniel’s story have been released online, and were first posted by ComicBook.

This new story will join the previously announced new 12-page story “Table for Two” by Roberti Venditti and Stephen Segovia. This hardcover “deluxe” edition will alco include 32 of the retailer-exclusive variants for the original softcover release, as well as “tribute art” from Jason Fabok, Mikel Janin, and Amanda Conner/Paul Mounts.
