Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame opened in North America Thursday evening with a record-setting $60 million take, according to Box Office.
That eclipses their fellow Disney film Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which in 2015 earned $57m from domestic Thursday previews – however, adjusted for inflation, that 2015-era $57m roughly translates to $61.26m in 2019 dollars (according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s CPI Inflatation Calculator).
Endgame will reportedly be shown this weekend in a record 4,662 screens domestically – including 3,900 3D locations, 410 IMAX screens, 785 Premium Large Format screens, and 250 immersive seating locations as it tries to unseat The Force Awakens’s record Friday and single biggest day ever ($119m, which includes the Thursday preview total) and Avengers: Infinity War’s record opening weekend ($258m).
