Now, we’ll frame these things with the grain of salt that anything is on the table when it comes to Avengers: Endgame marketing, and of course artistic promotional images often take their own license.
That said, this poster depicts two things of particular potential interest: the Iron Man-centric image shows Banner in his Hulkbuster armor, and puts Okoye alongside the Avengers in a previously unseen context.
The above image is a composite of the two official Odeon posters.
Banner’s armor is interesting, as it could indicate a reverse of Avengers: Infinity War marketing’s bait-and-switch inclusion of the Hulk, who spent only moments onscreen and did not appear in scenes where he was present in trailers – replaced instead by Banner clad in Hulkbuster armor.
This is of note particularly because Hulk himself has appeared in Avengers: Endgame toys dressed in the red-and-white uniforms the team takes on in some trailer footage. Now, toys often take their own license, but that would be a pretty big leap in this context.
The presence of Banner-Buster here (yes we’re coining that now) could indicate that Hulk won’t show up until Endgame‘s, uh, endgame, or it could mean simply that Marvel and Odeon want to leave the question of the Hulk’s appearance in the minds of casual viewers, given Banner himself has been the one to appear in most posters and trailers so far.
As for Okoye, she’s been placed among the Avengers in some marketing, filling the spot of Wakanda’s greatest warrior. But she hasn’t been depicted directly alongside the team yet in this way, suggesting that her role could be bigger than marketing has let on – not a bad idea for the fan-favorite character. We know from the latest special look footage that the group will split up into different squads – this could mean Okoye is part of one of those teams, which could even be drawn along the lines in this pair of posters.
And of course, we have to note the red-tinted aesthetic of the posters, which seems to carry over from previous trailer footage.
Finally, the appearance of the team on the Avengers compound lawn is just the latest indicator significant action occurs there, including a potential final showdown with Thanos.
As with all Avengers: Endgame‘s many, many, many surprises, the answers will be revealed when the film hits theaters April 26.
