Fans know all of the actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will eventually stop playing the characters they originated. Of the original six Avengers, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner seem poised to play their characters at least one more time, in the Black Widow prequel and the reported (but not yet confirmed) Hawkeye Disney+ TV series.
The bigger question isn’t when Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo stop playing their characters (Evans is widely expected to hang up the shield – in live action anyway – in Avengers: Endgame), but what happens to their characters when they do.
Do they just retire, die or should fans watch (hint, hint) out for another fate?
In a new Twitter promo video, Marvel Studios seems to be strongly hinting Thor’s journey in the MCU is coming to an end with Endgame. The brief spot shows images of Hemsworth from his first appearance as Thor through Endgame, under the tagline “Part of the journey is the end,” originally spoken by Downey Jr. in the first trailer, although paraphrased in the clip itself as “Every journey has an end.”
Check out the spot below and expect more of these focusing on other characters in the next few days.
Part of the journey is the end. Marvel Studios’ #AvengersEndgame is in theaters April 26.
