An apparent teaser ad for an undisclosed project is in many of this week’s Marvel Comics titles. The full-page ad, shown at right, says “When two aggressive species share the same environment, evolution demands adaptation or dominance.”

Newsarama has reached out to the publisher for comment.

When speaking about Marvel, “two… species,” and “evolution,” the first thing that comes to mind is the juxtoposition of humans (homo sapiens) and mutants (homo superior). Since the 1960s, Professor Charles Xavier has argued for “adaptation” of mutants and humans as a broader society, while villains such as Magneto, Cameron Hodge, Apocalypse, and others have argued for “dominance” by what they view as the ‘superior’ race.

Currently in the X-titles, a large swath of the characters have been removed from the primary Marvel universe for the alternate reality “Age of X-Man” event. While the characters are shown there to be living in somewhat of a mutant utopia, back in the primary Marvel Universe they are missing and presumed dead – with the recently-resurrected Cyclops and Wolverine re-organizing mutantkind in Uncanny X-Men.

This comes seven days before Marvel (and its parent company Disney) are set to re-acquire the full film/TV rights to the X-Men after 25 years due to the larger purchase of 21st Century Fox.
