Director Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy is returning to theaters to coincide with the 80th anniversary of Batman’s first appearance, according to Variety. All three Christian Bale-led films will be shown in IMAX in New York City, San Francisco, Toronto, Indianapolis, and Hollywood.

“Christopher Nolan broke new ground with the Dark Knight trilogy, and this is a rare chance for today’s audiences to experience these extraordinary films as they were meant to be seen,” said Warner Bros.’ domestic distribution president Jeff Goldstein. “To have the added privilege of hearing Chris’ insights firsthand makes this a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

The limited run will begin March 30 at CityWalk Hollywood’s Universal Cinema AMC, with Nolan also scheduled for a moderated Q&A discussion – which will be recorded and shown at subsequent screenings.

On April 13, the Dark Knight IMAX return will expland to NYC’s AMC Lincoln Square and San Francisco’s AMC Metron.

And on April 20, the three films will begin showing at Toronto’s Cinesphere Ontario Place and Indianapolis’ Indiana State Museum IMAX Theatre.

2008’s The Dark Knight was the first major studio film to utilize the then-new IMAX 70mm cameras. Six sequences in the film – for a total of 28 minutes – were filmed using this technology. The Dark Knight returned to IMAX theaters in 2018 for its tenth anniversary.

Nolan is currently working on an untitled film for Warner Bros. with a scheduled July 17, 2020 release date.
