The Marvel Universe has, for some time, been a universe made up of loners. Even the most iconic heroes didn’t start out as team players, from Spider-Man to Iron Man. But as these masked crimefighters eventually found solace in relying on others, some took even longer to warm up to the idea of being part of a group. A great example of this is the vampire hunter, Blade. Before he became an Avenger, he was often in and out of various supernatural teams but often settled back to a lone lifestyle where he would hunt vampires worldwide. As a result, seeing him work with others felt strange. But now, he may have a new challenge that no team could ever prepare him for — fatherhood.
Blade was far from well-versed in the topic when it came to family. His father was imprisoned in Latveria, and his mother died in a vampire attack that gave Blade his abilities. As a result, a loving home was something that he never had the luxury of experiencing. But with his new daughter, Bloodline, coming into the picture, his change in status quo could be exactly what the hero needed. But to reap the benefits of such a responsibility, Blade will have to ask himself if this is a task he could be willing to take on.
Before Bloodline came into the picture, Blade became the sheriff of the vampire nation that had taken refuge in Chernobyl. He became the only law that mattered in the land and was gracious to have the opportunity. Hot off of being an Avenger, Blade finally saw what it was like to be a hero in the truest sense, and he took what he learned into his new role. But with fatherhood on the horizon, there’s no denying that everything Blade has learned will come into play. Especially since this is something, he’s never experienced before.
The idea of being a parent is one that’s totally new and terrifying to many. For a Daywalker that has spent his life hunting vampires, this is even more terrifying as he isn’t sure whether or not his daughter is aware of his activities. However, her debut will reveal that she’s well aware of his past. Nevertheless, for Blade, safety is the most important thing, hence why he’s seemingly gifted her some gear to protect her. There would also be some excitement as Blade has spent most of his life alone with very few people who understand him and even less that stuck around. But to have a child that would get him more than anyone else could be both exciting and liberating for the character. But with, fatherhood could also create a shift in perspective for his life’s mission.
Blade has spent most of his life in the service of hunting and killing vampires. Since he didn’t have family or loved ones, this was all he had time for, and he was more than content with it. But now that Bloodline has arrived, there’s a new mission he must take part in, and there will likely be less time for him to devote to killing vampires. Although a break from vampire hunting is much deserved for the hero, there’s much that could still go wrong that may make his semi or full retirement nearly impossible. For starters, he’s made many enemies, and should any find out about his daughter; it could paint a target on their backs. There’s also the possibility that Bloodline is a Daywalker as well and may need to be trained to defend herself. For now, it may be that he wants to keep his distance but still keep her safe as shown by the weapons he’s gifted her.
Blade’s future isn’t written in stone, but unlike other solo acts in the Marvel Universe, his life as a loner will forever be changed because of his newfound family. Whether he will retire or fight alongside his daughter remains to be seen. But the one thing that could be taken away from Bloodline’s debut is that Blade will have a new chapter in his life that he may have never even considered. Because of Blade’s new role as a father, his character will potentially go through some monumental developments in a concise amount of time that will likely change him forever, whether he’s scared of getting close or happy to embrace her as a daughter and ally.
