It is almost a requirement (and at some Dungeons and Dragons game tables, mandatory) that the paladin be lawful good. Their powers are handed down from the gods, and they are imbued with such strength, magic, and power that they become a champion for their deity. Except for Oathbreakers and dark paladins, the paladin is expected to fight for truth and justice.
Of the DC heroes, there is one character whose sword and shield stand for justice above all others. There is one character who is a paragon of truth and endeavors to do the right thing no matter the cost. That hero is Wonder Woman, but what if there are other classes other than paladin that suit her just as well?
10 Paladin: She Has A Strong Since Of Justice
A paladin is usually lawful good, and thus they always do what they think is right. They try not to hurt others, they stay within the bounds of the law, and they save whoever they can. Wonder Woman is a character who seems to do the same in her life as a superheroine.
A lot of her powers, abilities, and personality traits are based on her desire to fight for truth and justice. However, there have also been instances in the multiverse wherein Wonder Woman has taken on evil qualities, which could also translate to an oathbreaker or dark paladin.
9 Fighter: She Is Proficient With Many Different Weapons
While Wonder Woman may be best known for her use of the Lasso of Truth, she is also proficient in a plethora of different weapons. It is not uncommon to see depictions of her in both animated, comic book, or live-action adaptations of her wielding a sword and shield.
She is also proficient with a bow and arrow as well as a javelin, and in some adaptations, her tiara can be used as a boomerang (though it has also been treated as a device to help her understand other languages instead of as a weapon). A fighter is one of the only classes with such a well-rounded knowledge of weaponry.
8 Paladin: Her Lasso Of Truth Is Like Zone Of Truth
Zone of truth is a famous paladin spell (though a few other classes can cast it), and it casts a circle in which those who fail their checks cannot lie. Something similar happens when people are caught by Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth.
On top of that, the Lasso has also been said to have somewhat healing qualities, as it can help someone overcome poison or mind control. Paladins do not have spells that do the same things, but they do have spells that can detect poison/disease, protect from evil/good, or purify food/drink.
7 Cleric: She Can Heal Herself Quickly
Wonder Woman has the extra-human abilities to stave off damage and heal at a rapid rate using the earth. Though she might be weaker to projectiles than other forms of damage, whatever her bracers and shield cannot deflect, she can heal herself through. A class this type of ability pairs well with is the cleric.
Though the cleric is more notable for being able to use the abilities on others, not just themselves, they have spells like lesser and greater restoration, which can stop effects such as poison, mind control, and other status effects. Furthermore, they have regenerative spells such as cure wounds, shield spells, enhance ability spells, and more.
6 Paladin: She Has Impressive Armor Defenses
A paladin is often built with great defenses, primarily in the form of durable armor. This is often because the paladin is on the front lines of combat and has to act as a tank character. Wonder Woman can relate to the paladin’s position well, and though she has her natural defenses of being resistant to many forms of damage, she also has powerful armor.
Her bracers can deflect almost anything, and her shield is just as potent. While she often does not seem to wear the armor that a paladin might, she has the same level of defenses, and with a little reflavoring, this would be a nonissue.
5 Sorcerer: She Was Born With Inherent Skills And Abilities
There was a time when Wonder Woman also had a little magic, and while she did not always have that magic and those skills have not carried over to every canon or adaptation, she has magic on her side even outside of the powers she was bestowed by deities such as Hecate.
At different times, she has possessed a Qwardian Power Ring, a Star Sapphire Ring, and actual magic gifted to her by Hecate, awakened by the Upside-Down Man, and eventually taken by Circe. Depending on which moment of Wonder Woman’s illustrious carrier and in which universe the player wanted to model, a sorcerer could be a great option.
4 Paladin: She Gets Her Powers From A Divine Source
The D&D paladin gets their magic, and abilities like divine smite and lay on hands from the deities of the paladin’s world. Though they do not have to be a demigod to get these powers (just make a firm enough oath to a deity), they have a deep connection with the gods and goddesses of their realm.
Things are not too different for Wonder Woman, who is said to be a demigod descended from the Olympians herself. This explains her enhanced endurance, her feats of strength, and her magical abilities (even if they are derived from magical weapons).
3 Barbarian: She Is Seemingly Untouchable
Though she does not wear a lot of armor (her bracers and shield doing most of the work), Wonder Woman is seemingly untouchable. She is resistant to almost any type of attack and can endure it with the sheer force of her body’s build. The only thing that can do damage (projectiles) is nullified with her equipment.
The barbarian is a class that can endure serious damage without the use of much (or sometimes even any) armor. When the barbarian rages, they become resistant to most types of damage and only take half of what they are dealt. In this way, Wonder Woman feels perfect for the barbarian class.
2 Paladin: She Uses The Traditional Sword And Shield
Paladins have to be able to shield themselves and others, so they often take the traditional sword and shield build. Though this is by no means a necessity, paladins do not have the battle-style versatility as fighters do, nor do they have the unarmored tank qualities of the barbarian. Furthermore, they do need to worry about spell casting as much, so they can carry two items without much thought to needing the “warcaster” feat (though it certainly would not hurt).
So, it is advantageous for them to take on the traditional sword and shield build, as it affords them armor in tandem with the ability to hit hard on the front lines.
1 Monk: She Has Excellent Unarmed Attacks
Even though Wonder Woman uses a lot of weapons, it has never been necessary for her to rely on a sword, lasso, or javelin. She can destroy her opponents with her bare hands, as training with the Amazonians has afforded her impressive hand-to-hand combat skills.
Thus, the monk is a great option for Wonder Woman, as this class has the needed fighting style paired with the ability to evade attacks, power through diseases/poison, mitigate damage, deflect projectiles, and deal extra hits, all of which are staples for Wonder Woman.
