It’s unknown how the actor contracted COVID-19, how is currently faring as a result or whether or not this will impact the production, which is scheduled to open on April 28. A previous performance had been cancelled after another cast member tested positive. Refunds are being offered to audiences.
This is far from the first performance or project Craig has been involved with that has been impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. His final outing as James Bond in No Time to Die faced numerous delays for over a year before finally being released into theaters in 2021. It had originally been scheduled to premiere in November 2019, but was postponed until February 2020. By that time, the pandemic had broken out and began to force the film industry to shut down across the board.
According to the most recent statistics provided by the World Health Organization, there have been nearly 490 million recorded cases of COVID-19 across the globe, with 6.1 million deaths. Recent reports indicate 11.29 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been distributed worldwide. Thankfully, the vaccines have proven effective against the most recent variant of the coronavirus, Omicron, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports is more transmissible than previous variants, but is notably less severe than them. Those with the two vaccine doses and booster shot have shown to be far less likely to experience severe illness.
The film was ultimately released in theaters and, unlike other major films at the time, was not given a hybrid release. However, it was released on streaming services and home media after a month in theaters. The film grossed $774 million worldwide on a budget of approximately $300 million. No Time to Die received generally positive reviews from critics and audiences, who agreed that the project was a satisfying conclusion to Craig’s career as Bond– a role he played for 15 years.
