WARNING: The following contains spoilers for This Is Us Season 6, Episode 10, “Every Version of You,” which aired Tuesday, March 29 on NBC.
The Big Three is an affectionate nickname Jack Pearson gave to his children — Kevin, Kate and Randall — to refer to them as a unit and has been used as a way to bond them together since the start of This Is Us. The series has just finished another trio of episodes that explored each one of the Big Three separately, with a common theme tying the episodes together. With this latest trilogy being part of the final season, it’s given the audience a glimpse at where each character will end up not only in the last episode, but well after the show has ended.
Based on the information revealed in these three installments, these are the most likely outcomes for each one of the Pearson kids, and how these endings connect to the journeys viewers have taken with them over the years. This Is Us has always been a series about journeys, and all three of the characters have further growing left to do before the series finale. Even though Season 6 has been flawed, there are still some big moments ahead for the Big Three.
Kevin Will Be a Confident Father Carrying On Jack’s Legacy
Kevin brought his twins to the Pearson family Thanksgiving by himself in Season 6, without a partner or a nanny to help him. He’s had some anxiety about being a good father, worried about living up to Jack’s legacy. However, the Thanksgiving trip seems to have soothed much of his fear. Every time Kevin struggled with the twins, he pushed through and found a way to overcome and do better. After the trip, he’s clearly become the competent and confident father he’s always wanted to be — and he’s set up to keep improving.
Kevin’s future will also include him fulfilling Jack’s dream of opening a construction company named after the Big Three. Kevin will use the company to build homes and employ Army veterans. Kevin is living up to Jack’s legacy in more ways than one as he moves into the next phase of his life.
Kate and Toby Will Be Going Their Own Ways – For The Better
This Is Us fans have known for a while that Kate and Toby’s relationship was doomed to end in divorce, but the end is now quite near. At the end of Kate’s episode, Toby tells her that for their relationship to survive, she has to move with the children to San Francisco for his job. She previously told him she’s not ready to move, and has applied for a permanent position at her company. Kate’s good at her job and she’s a good mother, but she isn’t completely defined by her marriage and knows that she doesn’t need to be.
An earlier episode revealed that an incident involving a smoker that causes Jack’s injury is the final nail in the coffin for Kate and Toby’s marriage. Toby recently announced that the smoker has been delivered to their house in Los Angeles, so the days are definitely numbered for this couple. But that’s for the best, because both Kate and Toby have grown and changed since they first met and to reach their full potential, they must say their goodbyes. Flash-forwards have already confirmed that Kate remarries, so this unhappy split will lead to at least one happy ending.
Randall Will Become a U.S. Senator
Randall takes on a lot of responsibility for the well-being of people he loves — so much so that he sacrifices his own aspirations and dreams. When Jack died, Randall did everything he could to keep his family together, including not going to his dream college in order to stay closer to his mother and helping convince a police officer not to arrest his siblings for trespassing and underage drinking. But in Season 6, his goals aren’t taking a back seat anymore. Randall is gearing up to run for Senator, and he truly believes that he will win.
Randall is a dedicated public servant, and it’s his time to go after his ambitions. His children are well taken care of and prepared for the next steps of their lives. Deja is going to become a doctor, and Annie and Tess are poised to be great as well. His wife Beth has found her way back to dance and carved out a successful career for herself. Randall and his family are smart, strong and ambitious and are set up to achieve their greatest dreams as they head towards the end of the series. This Is Us has every Pearson child on the road they were meant to be on, and that makes it seem like Season 6 might end perfectly after all.
