WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Lost City, now playing in theaters.
In The Lost City, Alan (Channing Tatum) needed to rescue Loretta (Sandra Bullock) when the evil businessman, Abigail (Daniel Radcliffe), kidnapped her based on secrets in her latest romance novel, The Lost City of D. He wanted to harness her knowledge to find a treasure on a remote Atlantic island, which pushed Alan to prove to Loretta he was more than just a hunky model for her covers.
The mission actually healed Loretta, too, because she was reminded that while she hated her work, it inspired many, such as Alan when he was a depressed LA pretty boy petering out in the industry. More so, the hunt motivated her to live again after she shelled up in her books when her archaeologist husband, John, died years ago. Thankfully, she and Alan were able to dig deep and stop Abigail, but while they got their happily ever after together, a couple of threads were set up for a sequel.
The Lost City Sequel Could Follow New Treasure Hunts
Loretta actually padded many of her books with intel she studied from her days in academia. As such, she could start rolling through them, treating them less like fiction and more like reality. Just like how Loretta unlocked clues and relics to show the Crown of Fire was real, she can discover other maps to treasures she didn’t know her books contained.
It can merge properties like The Goonies, Indiana Jones and Romancing the Stone. Only this time, Alan and Loretta will be more confident and self-assured with each other, handling the adventures much better than before. It’ll ironically test their bond because rolling through her history will stir up emotions for her dead husband, working Alan’s insecurities.
They won’t be alone, though, because Beth (Loretta’s publisher) would want to come along. The boisterous lady enjoyed her time in the field while romancing Oscar. Oscar’s also a fighter, knocking Abigail out for the cops, so he and his goat, Randy, could join. Last but not least, the black-ops operative, Jack (Brad Pitt), didn’t die from his headshot, so they can recruit him if the job’s extremely dangerous.
The Lost City’s Sequel Could Deal With The Fairfaxes Revenge
Abigail hated how his family viewed him as a black sheep. He specifically mentioned a brother, Leslie, who was a media mogul and businessman extraordinaire, buying up companies and becoming the golden child of the Fairfax empire. As a result, Leslie could break Abigail out to show him how it’s really done, exacting revenge on Alan and Loretta.
They could stage a fake hunt to entrap and kill them, providing the family a perfect alibi. The Fairfaxes can even hijack a hunt the heroes are on, trying not to murder them until they steal the treasure from under their noses. Abigail’s a twisted narcissist, but from his words, his family members have even bigger egos, so it’d be intriguing to see their dynamic as they carve this new plan to get back at Loretta’s crew.
Given their extensive resources, it won’t be easy stopping the Fairfaxes, but the silver lining is this could evolve Loretta as a writer, too. Seeing as she found love again with Alan, a new chase can tap into her crime and action skills to make her a different kind of genius. Seeing Loretta leveling up like this for a new breed of enemy could ultimately get Alan and the others to step up as well in a potential sequel to The Lost City.
