WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Superman & Lois Season 2, Episode 8, “Into Oblivion.”
In Season 2 of Superman & Lois, Wolé Parks’ John Henry Irons truly put his life on the line, proving to the Kents he’s part of the family. Everything came to a head when he donned his Steel suit and tried to save Clark from being killed by Bizarro in the Smallville mines. Unfortunately, Steel got smashed in the battle and ended up in hospital.
Sadly, it was all part of a big misunderstanding because Bizarro suffered a gruesome death trying to stop the villainous Ally Allston from decimating the planet like she did his. Nonetheless, John was a victim in this brutal war, leaving his daughter, Natalie, upset he’d give so much of himself for people who weren’t his blood. And to make it worse, while everyone thought he was healing up, Steel did indeed get broken in the worst possible way.
Steel seemed to be doing well in the hospital, but when Lois was about to leave, he said he couldn’t wait to get home and spend time with his ladies. A stunned Nat had to correct him, reminding him this wasn’t their Lois, which resulted in Steel having to rejig his memory and play if off.
Nat was left concerned, but she downplayed it as she had another problem to deal with. She didn’t like living on the Kent farm, and seeing Superman’s face every day. After all, an evil Man of Steel killed her mom/Lois on her world — ergo why Steel came over to kill this innocent Kal-El. They may have patched things up but no matter what, Nat won’t ever trust someone who looks like Clark.
Things ended on a positive note with Clark getting them an apartment and promising he wasn’t that monster, nor would he ever be. Nat was receptive, cutting through the tension and drama, but what she really needs the space for now is to work on Steel. If John keeps relapsing, it will dredge up emotional issues.
To top it off, if unchecked, Steel might lose his cool in the field and in an instant, should he think Kal isn’t a partner, he may attempt to murder Superman again. Nat’s definitely processing all this, knowing there’s a lot of anguish bubbling under John that been buried deep inside to keep a strong face for her.
Now, Nat’s going to have to take care of him because she just can’t let him believe another Lois is being ripped from his life. They’re still recovering from the first traumatic experience, so she’ll have to be cautious. Ironically, the silver lining is that if Superman needs a Steel, Nat may build her own suit and partner up with him. She might even end up helping Jordan become a better Superboy, with threats like Ally and the evil Lt. Anderson looming, but ultimately, her priority will be fixing her dad.
To see if Steel recovers, watch Superman & Lois, Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
