Stardew Valley has a ton of eligible bachelors and bachelorettes for the player to romance. Through gifts, conversations, special events, and other unique interactions, players can raise their relationship level with certain characters. Once players reach 10 hearts with their eligible NPC of choice, they can marry them. One such available choice for romance in Pelican Town is Penny, a quiet and knowledgeable resident who helps tutor the town’s children at the local Museum.
Penny’s soft demeanor and pleasant attitude make her a popular choice for marriage, especially since some of her gifts are fairly easy to obtain. Building relationships with characters in Stardew Valley is all about getting to know them. Not only does gifting them things that they enjoy raise their heart level with the player, but there are also special dialogue choices that can build hearts if players answer them correctly.
Who Is Stardew Valley’s Penny?
Penny is the daughter of Pam and can usually be found teaching the town’s children at the Museum or in the trailer that she lives in with her mother. Penny is soft-spoken, quiet, and kind, though the deeper parts of her personality aren’t really displayed until players get to know her a bit more. She certainly takes a ton of pride in her contributions to Pelican Town, especially when it comes to helping teach the local children.
As they spend more time with Penny, players will discover that she has a love of cooking as well. While she might not be particularly good at first, Penny will improve with practice and eventually offer the player energy-replenishing meals every so often once they’re married. Penny also has some interest in interior decoration and will eventually offer to redecorate the bedroom with decorations that she makes herself.
Where To Find Penny
Every character in Pelican Town has their own unique schedules that vary from day to day. Relationships will decay over time if players don’t speak to villagers every day, so knowing where to find people is pretty important. There are certain locations that Penny frequents where players can usually find her. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, Penny can be found in the Museum tutoring Jas and Vincent from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
During the weekends, players should check the Graveyard and playground in the mornings as Penny will usually take Jas and Vincent there. During the Fall, Penny will spend time throughout the week sitting on a bench outside the Stardrop Saloon, sometimes with Maru. During the winter, she’ll either spend time reading in the Graveyard or, if players have completed the bundles, in the restored Community Center.
There are also a few notable deviations in Penny’s routine. When it’s raining, she can either be found in her trailer or reading at the Museum. On the 9th and 23rd of each month, she’ll always be found walking around town. However, if the player has six or more hearts with Sam, she’ll be sitting outside of the Stardrop Saloon with Maru. These deviations apply regardless of the season, though she’ll do her raining routine over everything else.
The Best Gifts, Movies & Answers for Penny
Besides talking to Penny every day, the best way to build hearts with her is through gifts. Penny has many gifts that she loves, though they aren’t all the easiest things to find. Many of her best gifts require crops that only grow in the summer, such as melons and poppies. She also loves diamonds and emeralds, both of which can be found year-round in the mines. However, even these are difficult to obtain as diamonds can only be found past level 50 in the mines and emeralds only start appearing once players reach the bottom of the mines.
Penny is actually fairly difficult to build relationship points with in the game’s first season, though she does like two gifts that appear fairly frequently in the spring. Found around town, dandelions and leeks will provide a small relationship boost when given to Penny. Once summer rolls around, players should stockpile melons and poppies to use as gifts throughout the fall and winter.
After players restore the Community Center and complete the missing bundle, they’ll unlock the Movie Theater. Each character has a set of movies and concessions that they enjoy, both of which can boost a player’s relationship with them if they take them to see a movie. Penny will enjoy any film if Pam also happens to be in attendance, though there’s no way to guarantee this. The best movie to see with Penny is The Brave Little Sapling, and her favorite concessions are cotton candy and stardrop sorbet.
As players progress their relationship with Penny, they will be presented with unique dialogue choices. Penny’s two heart, six heart, and eight heart events all have dialogue choices that greatly affect her relationship with the player. Choosing the wrong option, such as saying that they can’t stand kids, can tank the player’s relationship with her by 1,500 points, which is the equivalent of six hearts.
During the two heart event where players watch Penny help another resident, players should select “I was. You did a kind thing there, Penny.” The six heart event’s best response is to lie and say that Penny’s cooking was delicious, which encourages her to keep practicing. During her eight heart event, players should first tell her that they’d love to be a guest speaker during her tutoring sessions. They should then say that they want to have a family someday. At 10 hearts, Penny is ready for marriage.
