Gosho Aoyama’s Detective Conan (also known as Case Closed) manga began serialization in January 1994 in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shōnen Sunday, and Takahiro Arai’s ongoing spinoff series, Detective Conan: Zero’s Tea Time, made its debut in the same magazine in 2018. The spinoff was positively received upon its release, ranking 6th on Honya Club’s “Nationwide Bookstore Employee’s Recommended Comics of 2018.” So far, the series has produced five volumes worth of content.

TMS Entertainment (Lupin the Third Part 6) is producing the anime adaptation with Tomochi Kosaske (ReLIFE: Final Arc) serving as the show’s director and Aya Oshimi (Tower of God) and Hitoshi Nishiyama (Akira) acting as the directors of photography. Yoshiko Nakamura (Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle) will supervise the series composition, with Kyōko Yoshimi (Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet) designing the characters and Kaori Yamada (My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!) handling the sound effects.

Detective Conan: Zero’s Tea Time isn’t the only upcoming debut for the long-running franchise. The newest movie, Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloweenis scheduled for release in Japan on April 15 and will feature a new arrangement of the iconic Detective Conan theme song. “The pressure of being in charge of a nationally popular series that is loved by so many people kept me up at night, but I was able to complete the soundtrack with a lot of advice from the staff who have worked on the Detective Conan series many times,” said composer Yugo Kanno. It was announced in August 2021 that another spinoff manga, Detective Conan: Police Academy Arc – Wild Police Story, would receive its own anime adaptation as well.

The anime adaptation of the original Detective Conan manga is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
