Harley Quinn Goes Full Batman While Donning Her Classic Suit

Harley Quinn appears to become a brutal vigilante similar to Batman in a new issue — but she takes it to the next level.

A preview for writer Stephanie Phillips and artist Riley Rossmo’s Harley Quinn #13 shows someone who looks like Harley taking on criminals in her classic clown princess attire. Her inner dialogue reads like something actor Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight would jot down while listening to Nirvana’s “Something in the Way” in The Batman. Being that this Harley is shown killing her targets and using guns though, she seems to be ignoring Batman’s rules, indicating that this isn’t Harley at all. There is more evidence to suggest this throughout the preview and the issue’s solicitation.

According to the solicitation written from Harley’s point of view, the upcoming issue will force her to face “one very murderous vigilante,” and that the police will be “convinced” Harley is the killer. The ending of Harley Quinn #12 featured a similar gun-toting character, who seemed to have killed the title’s former antagonist, Keepsake. Another hint as to Harley’s innocence is that the speech bubbles featuring her supposed inner dialogue are different from how her narration is normally portrayed in the series.

If Harley is being framed, it wouldn’t be the first case in recent time that this has happened to a Batman ally. In Nightwing 2021 Annual #1 from this past November, Red Hood was impersonated by Clayface to make the vigilante seem like he had reverted back to his murderous roots. The villain took on Jason Todd’s attire from Red Hood: Outlaw, and it required a Nightwing/Red Hood team-up to take him down.

Whether Harley will have any outside help from the Bat Family for her imposter problem remains to be seen. She is now considered a close ally of the group, being that she was trusted to go undercover in Arkham Tower in the current “Shadows of the Bat” story arc of Detective Comics. Coincidentally, the final issue of “Shadows of the Bat” — Detective Comics #1058 — releases the same day as Harley Quinn #13.

  • It’s a whole new year of me, Harley Quinn! I’ve learned the ins and outs of Gotham’s lovely sewage system, and I’ve even made some unexpected friends along the way. I mean, except for one very murderous new vigilante roaming the streets, a new homicide detective convinced I’m the killer, and the acclaimed Spice World (1997) film not being on a single streaming platform. Other than that…totally fine. Year two starts here with a new arc…brand new characters…and some all-too-familiar faces from my past who maybe aren’t so happy to see me.

Harley Quinn #13 is written by Phillips with interior and cover art by Rossmo, inks by Jay Leisten, colors by Ivan Plascencia and letters by AndWorld Design. Variant covers for the issue were contributed to by Adam Hughes, Rex Lokus, Simone Bianchi, Mico Suayan, Derrick Chew and Will Jack. The issue goes on sale March 22 from DC Comics.
